I have a few questions about the two Rome properties, the Domus Romana and the Mayfair:

1. Do these units have full or partial kitchens or even a refrigerator?

2. Is breakfast provided? I believe that it is included in the Domus Romana.

3. How tight is it for four people for the units that hold four?

4. If both are available, which place is preferable?

I was at Domus Romana 5-12Jul08 and it was wonderful, almost. Top floor gets very hot, central AC just doesn't make it up there very well and they shut it off centrally for several hours at night. My original sleeps 4 was ok for the 4 of us but when I got moved because of the AC I ended up on a lower floor in a 1BR sleeps 5 and it was big with 20ft ceilings. An old monastery or nunnery. There is a 'kitchen in a closet' or cabinetry but about the same size as Florence but no microwave or oven. Breakfast was great, free, and on par with Florence.

Domus is more centrally located than Mayfair and I didn't check it out.
Internet was 4euro an hour.

Were there any extra charges at the Domus Romana or did the RHC points cover everything?

There were no additional charges. I'm going back in December but this time to Mayfair and Contessina, AC shouldn't be a problem, had a traditional week to burn and split it between the two and had two free bump tickets to use.

We had a great time at the Domus Romana

We had a great time at the Domus Romana. We stayed from May 27 to June 3 in two units. We had a typical RHC shock when we checked in. We arrived about ten in the morning to drop off our luggage. We gave them our RHC confirmations and the fun began. The front desk said their records had us checking into one room that day and a second room the day after. They also said they (and most other hotels) were fully booked because the European soccer finals were being held in Rome that night. After some discussion, they gave us one one bedroom unit that easily slept four in the living room (we were a party of six). The unit had a full kitchen and large bathroom with a bath tub. We kept the unit for the week and the next day, we received another one bedroom unit that was much smaller (slept three with a single bed in the living room).

The location was excellent. It was within walking distance of just about everything and and it was also close to the metro and bus stops. Breakfast was great (and, of course, free). Internet access, either on their terminals or your own laptop, was 2 euros per 30 minutes.

The hotel is a little tricky to find (thumbs up to Tripadvisor for making it easy). It is on Quattro Fontane, off Nationale, in the second court yard.

No trouble finding it by car with GPS....
I stayed at Mayfair in early December, wonderful weather the whole time. It is quite nice with another great breakfast, almost as good as Domus. Lugging bags from the METRO was a bit of a hike but doable. I liked it.

Splitting traditional week?

I was told that I cannot split my traditional week - that it must be used all at one place. I have two of them and would love to be able to split them...

I did it in Rome and Florence last year and I did for NYC for next year! There is a $30 fee to split for 3 and 4 days.

I must have gotten an inexperienced person booking. BTW, I just tried to use my Ambassador week at the Crowne Plaza in December, and I cannot use it for prime time, which includes September to December there. I was able to use a studio in March. Definite bummer.

December 2009 or 2010? Just wondering if RHC is booking the Crowne Plaza for this year.

If you were trying for this year and the Crowne Plaza was not available, could you still get an Affinia?

Affinia and Crowne Plaza

The Affinia is totally booked. I shall try just before I leave to see if they have had a cancellation, but I don't expect anything. The Crowne Plaza contract does not start until January - this led to the confusion over which December week I was booking.

I have been trying to find out what, if any, difference in tax there is between an Ambassador and a studio at CP. I have some days coming up in May in an Ambassador, so if we don't hear anything before that I will let you all know then. I paid almost double the tax for an Ambassador at the Affinia Manhattan as I did for a studio at Affinia Dumont. Don't know if it was the hotel or the size of the room, but it was definitely a bit of a shock!
