  • Buying VRI to Trade via II

I'd like to buy something very, very cheap to trade online, primarily through II but also RCI. I'm not very familiar with all of the VRI Resorts though I saw the sticky listing dual-affiliated resorts (if I understood it correctly). We usually need a 2BR and we'd like pretty decent trade power, though it certainly doesn't need to be top notch. Having an exchange priority for VRI resorts would be a nice benefit. Does II or RCI offer this for VRI resort owners?

Is there an internal exchange program with VRI?

Is there a way to get a 2BR (perhaps a L/O, perhaps EOY) for a purchase price under $1,000 and maint/taxes under $400 or maint/taxes/II acct under $500?

Any suggestions for specific resorts to look for, with decent trade power in II, at these prices?

Thanks very much for your help!!!

Is there somewhere online to look at the maint fees for VRI resorts? Some way to look for those with relatively moderate maint fees and good management of the upkeep? Thanks.

      Lisa,

If you can live with a higher maint fee ($550) and the possibility of a special assessment, you can pick up Foxrun weeks really cheap (or maybe free). They're all 2 br units, and for some reason II has given those deposits an AC (accomodation certificate i.e. bonus week) for most red and yellow season weeks. I know of someone selling one for $500 that's a red late summer week.

As for lower maint fees, you just have to look around because there are no websites that would list all the maint fees of all the II-affiliated resorts. Wish there was such a thing! Hey, why don't you call them all up and get their current m.f.s and start such a website, if you're web-savvy? I'll pitch in for your domain name cost.

        internal exchanges

Do they have internal exchanges with VRI?. If they do what are the fees associated with the exchanges?

Carol C, call all those resorts - yikes!!! Yeh, sure I'll do that! Fairfield owners have compiled their maint fees to a File at their Yahoo! Group so I wondered if VRI owners, by chance, had done the same somewhere. Guess not.

But I am curious about the answer to Gnome's question about internal exchanging as well as exchange priority with any of the external exchange companies. Anyone know?

Oh, and thanks for the PM, LittleStar.

VRI resorts have a preference with RCI ONLY to other VRI resorts for 30 days after deosit.

That being said, it still has to be 'like for like' so a RED VRI will trade for a RED VRI - white might not have enough power to trade for red VRI time.

You might consider Fairway of the Mountains - as it locks off into 2 1BR 4/4 units and MFs are currently $550 - on the same property as FXR.

HOWEVER - you get much more Bang For The BUCK trading FWM and FXR with II - you get an AC for most weeks and they really trade well!!!

Not at this time, their company for preferred trading is RCI.

they have recently purchased ORE which does have an internal trading program but the VRI resorts will have to each agree individually if they want to participate - this will not happen quickly!

                    Lisa,

Have you looked at a MROP red week.?

It would seem to have some of what you are looking for.

Tradability with either II or RCI or the current ORE system and hopefully in the future VRI.

MF are now about $465 and there are some additional fees for certain resorts and to upgrade to a 2BR.

Last I looked on ebay maybe $850 to obtain plus closing etc, overpriced closing the real cost to transfer/record is about $80.

Resort availability on the east coast is limited, but for trading as I initially purchased seems fine.

I don't know much about the II aspect and trading there.

Here is a list of resorts, It may be slightly outdated but is taken from the ORE/VRI website.

                    MROP Locations

MROP was my first purchase after deciding I didn't need more FF points.

Good luck finding one on the resale market! I've tried, Lord knows I've tried. But it's not easy finding one at a decent price.

                        Free Foxrun week

                        Lisa,

Here's a free Foxrun week listed on TUG Beta Classified Ads. It's a 2BR Week 1.

Basham, thanks for the suggestion. Are MF the same at all MROP resorts? Is ownership generic or resort-based? Are there 2BR L/O options? EOY options? Do all MROP resorts trade with both II and RCI?

Mshatty, thanks for the tip. We're not sure we want an annual non-lockoff 2BR for trading only through II, with the MF possibly going up as I've read for Foxrun. Is week 1 much of a trading week? I know we're picky.

                            Having trouble posting, trying this:

Basham, thanks for the suggestion. Are MF the same at all MROP resorts?

                            Yes.

                            Is ownership generic or resort-based?

Um. in the spirit of the question Generic.

Are there 2BR L/O options? EOY options?

No. They have a "standard unit " concept generally a 1BR and a trade up fee $25? to a 2BR. It is more complicated than that but that is a fair represention for now.

Do all MROP resorts trade with both II and RCI?

No. Some trade only with RCI or II and some are dual affiliated. That is an attraction of the system.

It may not be for you, I'm disenchanted with trading myself now.

Basham, thanks for the intro. I don't know anything about MROP. Is there an online tutorial or someplace good to look for more detailed info about their program? Thanks!
