  • Will there ever be an vri internal exchange program

We bought a VRI resort in Sedona last year. Was wondering if anyone knows if there are going to be any changes in the future as far as opportunities to exchange to other VRI resorts. We did exchange one for another VRI resort with RCI this year and it was nice to save 20 dollars off our exchange fee. I read they bought a company called ORE and that the owners of those resorts had an internal exchange program with lower exchange fees than RCI and I thought I read on their website that the other vri resorts would possibly become part of this program. I think the hoa boards of each resort would decide. Does anyone have any new info on what to expect and when.

I can't answer your question but there appears to be a shift over the last several years to the mini-systems. Several exist now such as Wyndam, Bluegreen, Hilton and Sunterra to name a few. It is rumored that Marriott will be unveiling it's own mini-system for internal exchanges in the near future.

With external exchange companies like RCI making the trade magazine and papers with announcements of how they can rent the same timeshare units that developers are trying to sell at rates lower than the developers own maintenance fee's, I can see developers wanting to cut companies like RCI out of the loop until actions that can hurt sales come to a stop.

Of course those same developers give RCI units to rent out hoping to get new prospects in and sell them on the idea of full ownership. It just seems stupid to make units available to rent at rates so inexpensive that those prospects have a built in excuse (but I rented it for less than your yearly MF plus no cash outlay) NOT to buy.

The last that I heard, each resort HOA would need to vote to determine if they wanted to be in the VRI (old ORE internal exchange program) program. But I haven't heard anything from my two VRI managed resorts HOA. I just banked my two weeks for 2008 with RCI to get the exchange preference and discount.

I recently made a VRI priority exchange for an ORE resort via RCI with the discount.

The internal VRI program is still moving ahead but, as these things often do, has hit some glitches they need to get fixed prior to roll out. I'd hope to have news about it by year end but thats just a guess.
