Question about usage of WM timeshare outside US

Hello, I am considering purchasing a WM timeshare on the resale block. I will be paying cahs for it and I am interested in buying around 20,000 credits. My situation is this. I do not live in America and if I ever do get a chance to return and visit the WM American resorts it will be seldom. I am interested in using it to visit the resorts in Australia and the South pacific. I am also interested in the RCI excanges and is that still possible if I purchase a timeshare without the RCI package?
Are there any problems or limitations in buying a deed from a property in the US and using it in the S Pacific?
Any help would be appreciated. I want the flexibility of Worldmark rather than being locked down to one particular resort in the S Pacific.

Not WM owner, but what is the logic to purchase a US timeshare and try to exchange outside of US?

By the way, have you also check the DAE (dial an exchanger) when you consider RCI exchanger?

There are partitions within the RCI system. Very few S Pacific/ Asia exchanges show up under North American accounts.

Our Aussie members have nothing good to say about RCI points. They have been waiting several years for on-line capability.

Jya-Ning gives very good advice as I also don't see any benefit to purchasing US Worldmark besides the current exchange rate.

You should purchase a WorldMark South Pacific package. Those credits are for booking WorldMark South Pacific resorts.

The inventory for WorldMark South Pacific and WorldMark North America are different. To get unfettered access to both, you need to buy from Worldmark by Wyndham at $1.85 per credit or so.

Given your needs, just buy WorldMark South Pacific credits. Whenever you want to go to the US, make a trade with a US owner.

Firstly, is there a resale broker that sells WM South Pacific? So far I've only seen WM American timeshares on the resale front. Also, as an American can I buy into WM South Pacific and actually OWN it. I was reading that if you are a non Aussie citizen and buy into the timeshares you only get a "right to use" for the duration of your life.

But you never really own an Australian timeshare unless you are an Aussie. I dont want that. Is there another flexible timeshare that I could purchase that would give me similar benefits to Worldmark that wouldn't treat me like a bastard stepchild?It's my understanding that is the way it works. I am looking to invest about 15-20 grand in this thing. I am not looking to pour all that into a "right to use". In such a case I had better just pay for my vacations out of my pocket. Hence, the concern with perhaps buying American, but it would be seldom used there.

Thats what I am trying to figure out. I have been told by people with knowledge of Aussie real estate that timeshares "owned" by non Aussies are basically a "deed" for 50 years or so of right to use. Seeing how you are able to will your American worldmark(for someone who owns one) within your family I would like something similar. If this is not the case and my friends are wrong then I want to knwo the truth.

I don't know Australian Real Estate law. I would contact Sydney on this message board. She is Australian and she might know.

I will do that. If it indeed is a right to use issue, and that is what I have been told, I will pass and investigate other alternatives. Thanks for the info.

It is not because you are a non aussie, Nationality has nothing to do with it. Works the same way for aussies also.

Mark, you mean pp 12? It take a while to downloaded from a cable connection.

Interesting, I don't know in AU, the land is 99 year lease. Same as China. Although Taiwan and Hong Kong is like USA. Does that apply to regular house? I guess I need to ask my aussie relatives.
