  • Worldmark Layoffs

The telemarketing department in the NW was laid off as well as more executives.
It seems the whole NW office is closed except the upgrade departments.
Sales will continue at the Federal Way off site and The Camlin Hotel.
Rumor has it that more layoffs and office closings have occurred especially in California.

It's amazing that Wyndham is forecasting sales to decrease by 40% year over year. The sales actually will decrease since they can't sell the timeshare loans on the secondary market.

40% drop is sales is HUGE.

      WorldMark by Wyndham layoff

I was one of many Wyndham employees laid off this week. It is a massive reduction in workforce, scaling back from what was once about 50 sales offices nationwide to about 5. The 40% target reduction in sales is fairly easy to accomplish when your sales force is decimated. We who have been given walking papers understand the business conditions that prompted this action, and while we are all stricken by the loss of employment, we perhaps are more unsettled by losing what we consider to be a family experience, and a love for a company that had to say good-bye. We stand by the product, and as an owner, I will continue to enjoy it. We can only hope a day will arise when we can return to its employ.

          Worldmark Layoffs

The sad thing about this layoff is that Jeff Meyers is running the ship now and the mandate is to be able to sell 1.2 billion in 09 down from an estimated 2 billion. With Jeff at the lead they have shut Worldmark down and decided to get their volume from the old Fairfield side. With the 3 off site centers that are still open they will be just selling off the existing inventory and all new inventory will be going to Wyndham VR (old Fairfield). They must have always wanted to merge the two but couldn't because of the Worldmark HOA is so strong. This way they stop producing Worldmark inventory and have shut off the sales and when it turns around it will all be Wyndham VR.

              Four offsites left open

Rumor has it that only Federal Way and Vancouver, WA. Las Vegas, NV. and Salt Lake City, UT. are the only off site sales offices left open.

Really sorry for you that you got laid off and I hope you can return one day, if that is possible. We appreciate your arrival here with your knowledge and love for the program as you own there too.

Do you mean this old link ( http://streettalkblog.com/ ) that no longer works and the person ( Flyfishpagosa ) who just signed up here?

Were they not related to the Timeshare Beat too? I just noticed now that the Timeshare Beat web site no longer works either. There was so much information there.

A big welcome to FLYFISHPAGOSA, if that is the person of Street Talk or the Timeshare Beat. This forum is great too and your posts will be greatly appreciated by all.

4,000 Jobs lost between Wyndham and Westgate plus some at Marriott too!

I hope this link works as they seem to change from day to day. How awful. How long will this downturn last for the timeshare industry?

My somewhat glib comment was my reaction that the posts by the apparently former Wydham employees were the sorts of comments that previously appeared at StreetTalk before Rod and Angela turned out the lights.

Reading the post, I do think my comment may have been a bit glib. I do feel empathy for those who have lost their jobs. I know what it's like; I've been outplaced twice in my career; once at age 42 and again at age 51.

At my age and in my business I'm essentially unemployable unless I can walk into an employer with $500,000 of contracts in hand and reasonable prospects for at least another $500,000 of work within the next 12 months. I do know what it's like to be on your own, with no income, 18 months of COBRA (with no employer contribution), and four dependents.

                        Timeshare Beat Streetblog

That was a real compliment thinking that I was behind streetblog. Sorry to say that it's not me. I am just an 8 year veteran of the industry. Five years with Trendwest and 3 with Fairfeild. It is a really tough time but lets remember that the indusrty got started because of a tough time. During the 70's when rates where through the roof and developers had built resorts that they couldn't sell is our humble begining.

I knew you weren't the force behind the StreetTalk blog. Rod Hackman and I have had a bit of correspondence in the past; I don't know what he's off to doing now, but I certainly wish him the best.

The wisdom of Wyndham. I respect them for their professional demeanor during these difficult times. They are not alone in this economic struggle due in part to government mismanagement of our financial markets. Growth is a important but the speed and costs need to be evaluated by the bottom line. Internal growth is wise and selling vacation packages for a profit is even better. We need a comfortable consumer interest rate and a superb base price. Marketing needs to generate consistent profit. A lean operation with proven performers and well managed overhead will produce growth and superb profits. This product can be sold over the kitchen table on a laptop. Looking ahead to the future.
