  • Worldmark and Wyndham: How do they work together?

    We just got interested in a timeshare a few weeks ago after attending a DRI pitch. We didn't buy. Worldmark looks to be the best for us. I have seen points from 33-50 cents. The 50 cent mark is usually where they start coming loaded up. I was actually considering a take over deal, paying 5o cents a point for 15K and getting 11.5K now with another 15K in Nov. I have read to only start with 10K points, but we already know we would like 2 weeks, and think we will need 20-25K in the long run.

    Question. I found a post on TUG about the Worldmark listing the Wyndham resorts available to Worldmark users. One of them was Glacier Canyon in WI Dells. That is not listed on the Worldmark page. Has it gone away or was that an error? Will this resort ever be available to Worldmark? I know there is another resort in WI Dells but this one saves a lot in that it has a park. If we can't visit there with worldmark, how hard will it be to exchange into it?

    Also, I saw a posting about lay offs. They sounded like most of the new stuff being built is going to go into Fairshare. Does anyone know the truth to this? I see there is a new place being built in CO. so it doesn't seem like it is right, but perhaps they are saying the new Fairshare will not be shared with Worldmark? It sounds to me like fairshare was cheap enough to get into, but MFs looked high and a resale person at Holiday said it was harder to get into worldmark than to go the other way.

    Worldmark & Wyndham are different TS systems but do share a small amount of inventory between them. If you live or want to vacation on the west coast than WM is the better choice.

    Right now, many people get about 7000 to 10,000 points then if they need more rent points from other members. This is generally cheaper than the MFs associated with having more points. So buy a membership with 10,000 credits, then rent from an owner the extra 5K-10K pts you need.

    Also, there are several ways to stretch your points. Let's say you want to go to the palm springs area, You can make a reservation in Palm Springs at the WM, then 59 days before your trip, try and find an II exchange into the same area. Since it is a last minute exchange it will cost you only 4000 pts, cancel your WM reservation and you get a great vacation and a much lower point useage. If you can't find a last minute exchange, you'll still have your WM reservation so you wouldn't have problem with the airfare.

      Thanks, the information is very useful, and perhaps you are right. I just worry that next it will be I need the extra 10K points and now I have to pay a $1 for what I could have got at .50. I guess I figure the recession can't last forever, then what will the rental credits cost?

      As far as Glacier Canyon, WI Dells. I did see it is not on the Worldmark site and so either it is gone or never existed with them. I know very little so far about RCI and II. Do worldmark members have an annual fee or just a one time fee with them and how far out will they let you book? Also how much are their exchange fees?

        No, they stop building anything new. That hold true for Fairshare also. If it is in the process of building, they will complete it and sell, but if it has not break ground, it will not start until they believe it is safe to do so.

        I believe Glacier Canyon in WI Dells is in Fairshare. Not sure if it is in the exchange inventory. But if it is, it usually is 1 or 2 units.

          How do I find out if it is in the exchange inventory and what does 1-2 units mean? It sounds like it means there is very little availability. I know I am focusing a lot of emphasis on one place, it is just that we like everything better about Worldmark, but know we are going to be visiting WI every year so we want a nice place to go...there fairshare is better. I highly doubt owning both would be wise. THanks again.

            I don't know about wise but if you become like most of us on this site you will end up owning more than one TS system.

            I personally own a Disney, Vacation Villages RCI Points resort and a VRI as well as 2 weeks at an RCI weeks resort and am actually looking to add a Marriott and Wyndham.

            Honestly I can justify them all and have actually started to look at biennial use so I can own in more places where I want to go and keep my expenses lower.

            Don't be afraid to look at different systems and possibly buy more than 1 if they meet your needs.

            Owning more systems forces you to make time for vacations, which is something we Americans need more of.

              Wow. Wouldn't the MF's be much lower if one were to own a lot more... say 50K in Worldmark points and just trade for what they want... or is trading out of network so difficult that many people forgo the process when there is one place they know they want to visit again and again?

                i own both worldmark and wyndham. I live in the Chicago area so I use my wyndham a lot for Glacier Canyon. You cannot get there with Worldmark points. If you are not a Wyndham owner, you may get lucky and find an exchange thru RCI, but I find it cheaper to purchase wyndham points resale on Ebay with lower MFs. I haven't had a problem booking at the 10 month window but 6-7 months is a problem during peak periods. A nice thing about wyndham is that you can book for 3, 4 or 7 days at the 10 month window. You can't do that with worldmark.

                I use my worldmark for west coast locations (Kehei and Oceanside this year and west yellowstone next summer). Worldmark has some georgeous locations that book up VERY quickly so you have to plan far in advance. The good thing about worldmark is that there is no cancellation fee if you cancel 30 days ahead. The upfront cost of worldmark is lower than wyndham, but the ongoing MFs are a bit less.

                Its all about how you would use it.

                  Not to stray you away from this site which is fantastic-but are you aware of this forum WorldMark Owners Community ? That site is wholly dedicated to Worldmark owners. For owners by owners. You will have all your questions answered promptly and thoroughly. I own WM and LOVE IT!

                  I don't necessarily agree with an upfront purchase of a ton of credits when you can rent credits at any time in any amount and it doesn't impact your MF's. MF's are tiered and based on the amount of credits you own-so no matter how many you decide to purchase-make sure you end up at the high end of the tier..to maximize your purchase.

                  I started with one account and then bought another..both were fully loaded so I had tons of credits to "play" with booking and exchanging. I later decided to combine them for one account and one set of MF's. There are pros and cons to each (one account or two accounts)

                  I use II mainly-but also belong to some of the independents for various reasons. Worldmark trades very nicely with II and you can search online without ever having made a deposit.

                  There is a learning curve with WM but once you have the hang of the rules for WM and for exchanging-I think you would be very happy (again-I'm biased) and have spent a lot of time learning the ropes. I have and do own other t/s but WM is my favorite for the all the flexibility it offers.

                  In fact-I'm typing this from my lovely 2bd unit at WM Bass Lake..one of my favorite places on earth

                    I own both WM and Wyndham. I get the best of both worlds. Living in the southern middle of the country, I can go east or west.

                    I just booked next summer's trip to Canada, Victoria and Vancouver, with WM.

                    There is also another site for Wyndham owners that is run by other owners and deals exclusiving with the Wyndham timeshares.

                      WM Higher Buy In
                      Lower Annual -

                      Wyndham Lower Purchase
                      Higher Annual

                      Pluse Wyndham shutting off points rentals, which are still allowed with WM

                      YMMV

                        In general, if there is a location you will want to visit repeatedly, you should own in that resort (or system). Easiest, least stressful way to get what you want.
