  • 42K generic and 105K - lower season Orlando?

I'm trying to figure out what I can reasonably hope to get with generic RCI deposits for off season travel to Orlando.

Do you think a 42K generic Wyndham deposit would pull Sheraton Vistana, Bonnet Creek, or any of the HGVC resorts (1 bedrooms) for a September, January, or early May week? How does 105K compare?

Also, can you put in a request with a generic deposit?

After 5/30's re-evaluation, I don't really have a good sense for what's what. Prior to that, a 42K would probably swing Vistana or Bonnet Creek, and a 105 would've gotten you anything other than DVC. Now, I'm just not sure, but in general trade-ups have become more difficult.

You can put in an ongoing request with a generic, but you have to call to check up on it.

Do you have any visibles or fixed weeks? Due to a screw-up on my part, I needed a last-minute 2BR in Orlando for the last week of this month. Checking by hand, day after day after day for something to call in for got nothing. I put an ongoing search for "a 2BR in Orlando" with one of my visibles, and it was like shooting fish in a barrell. You just let them match, throwing them back into the pond until you find one you like. If you're in the 45 day window, you can confirm it onto anything. I tossed back several before I took a Vistana week, and it only took a couple days for that one to pop up. I called to confirm it onto a 28K.

If this worked out well in late February, it should do wonderfully in slower times. You'll need a cancellable backup (or to not be committed to the trip).

Here's another thought: try doing a search first with a 42K for these units. Ask about HGVCs first, then BC, then Vistana. That should tell you all you need to know. If you do, it would be interesting to hear the results.

I'm still waiting to get closed on my Wyndham points. Apparently, Wyndham lost some paperwork that was faxed to them (LOL) by our closing agent. That's why I'm wondering about depositing my Wyndham points into RCI because the closing is taking so long.

I don't have anything deposited with RCI.

          So Brian,
Are the days of 28K deposits seeing a BC over?

If that's so I might as well just use my Wyndham points.

At least it's a sure thing.

Maybe not over, but a lot harder. I was unable to see a late February 2BR that got deposited this past December with any size generic, but it's not all or nothing. A few others called to see what they could see when the September deposit went in. I don't remember the details---I know some generics could see some sept. units, but I can't remember what level saw what size unit. I can't even remember what board we did it on.

This is pretty consistent with my sense that Orlando has gotten a lot more "stratified"---it takes quite a bit more to see the "better" resorts than it used to, especially in the seasons with higher demand. Not just for DVC, but also for Bonnet and HGVC.

My guess is that until most people figure out that Vistana is being refurbished top to bottom, that might be the diamond in the rough that's an easier pull. According to the resort, they'll be done early in 2011.

Then I'm glad I bought Wyndham, HGVC and DVC. As things dwindle in RCI at least I know I'll have a way in.

Sorry to see that the 28K has lost it's bite. Maybe I'll have better luck getting one of the beach resorts with it. I'm still gonna do a deposit and try my luck, maybe I'll hit a glitch in the system and get lucky.
Have you tried to get anything in Pompano or Daytona with a 28K?

Well, Bonnet Creek, HGVC, and DVC are all being deposited. You just can't get it.

Honestly, what can you expect out of a blue studio? It's the mangiest of dogs, mugwump swamp material, and it costs next to nothing. But, as I wrote above, it still has its uses---last-minute stuff, some deeply off-season stuff, that sort of thing. I'm surprised the more extreme internal trade-ups lasted as long as they did.

As soon as I close and deposit the 42K, I'll let you guys know my progress. I'm thinking I may just book Bonnet Creek direct with Wyndham points for September (112,000) in a 2 bedroom and deposit the 42K left over into RCI. If I can get Sheraton Vistana with 42K, I'll be happy. Anything HGVC would make me extremely happy.

I already booked Marriott Cypress Harbour for late September with an AC in II and I need one other unit for the kids so I'll probably just book Bonnet Creek direct. If I can use those 42K leftover points for Sheraton Vistana for something in January 2011 or early May 2011, I'll be happy.

                    Littlestar,

I hope your plan comes together as you and I are like minded.

Thanks, Christine. I really like Sheraton Vistana. My favorite section is over in the Lakes/Fountains area. I haven't been there since they put the little food court in with the jukebox.

I like it there too. Have gotten some last calls there and can't complain one bit. Of course now that the renovations are almost complete it'll probably be harder to get on last call but we can only hope nobody reads these posts.

Remember that you can't really compare a visible to a generic. Generics have an averaged trade power, visibles are tied to a specific week, and may have a higher or lower trade power.
