  • When is PIC worth it?

We own 168k Wyndham points EOY and 2 other fixed weeks: Sheraton Broadway Plantation and Peppertree at Tamarack. I've been trying to understand the process - and fees - involved in converting these to PIC, in order to give us better options at the more "expensive" Wyndhams some years.

Is it really worth it to do this? Once we convert a week, is it automatically converted every year after that, or do we have a choice each year? And do I understand correctly that you have to do the conversion 2 years out?

I was able to trade my 1 bdrm week 7 Tamarack this year for a 2 bedroom over July 4 next year at the same place through RCI. I've been thinking of joining II with the Sheraton to see my options there. If converting to PIC is too difficult, I won't be interested. Any advice? Thanks!

In order to "PIC" you have to buy a significant amount of 95%+ over priced developer points. Not worth it. End of story.

You have to buy some point for PIC. Long a go, for 2 weeks, it is min 119k. So you can figure your potential cost. I have hear quote from $135 per 1k to $200 per 1k.

PIC point is based on your unit size and RCI color code given to the week. It is the same as generic grid. So 3BD red week, it will be 254k, 2 BD red week will give you 154k. 1BD red week is 105k. So on so forth. For most people, if they have 2 BD or 3 BD red week, than that may be in the consideration mix, if they have much less, it mostly does not make it. Otherwise, it is not very economic benefit to use them (since you MF per point will be so high, that it may be better just rent from owners)

You will have to pay the club fee on those PIC points no matter if you use them or not, but you don't have to give the week to them, you can use these week yourself including deposit them to RCI. In order to use them, you have to deposit them to RCI 1 year ago (could be wrong on the time), and let RCI know you will give it to Wyndham, than you call Wyndham, tell them you will give them the deposit and they will verify it themselves. Then you can use the point.

Since there is a developer purchase, and since everytime when you travel, some seller/updater will try to scam you on PIC (claim it will be no longer work), and since once you did that, your week is fixed (you can no longer easily sell it without lossing your VIP benefit which is the main reason most people doing PIC) thus it usually not make it worth the effort to do that.

But each people has his/her own consideration, you will have to do some calculation to determine if it worth or not.

Also, at the time of depositing for PIC, there is a $89 fee (changed from $50 about 2 years ago).

Thanks! You've affirmed my thinking on PIC. I'll just accumulate more Wyndham resale points instead and use my Starwood ownership separately.
Now, hopefully all will be okay by Wednesday when we're scheduled to arrive in Hawaii. Staying in Waikiki area and Kona Hawaiian resort. (fingers crossed).
