  • 154,000 leftover pts - how should I deposit them in RCI?

Finally supposed to close on Wyndham resale points this coming week. All of our trips are planned for the remainder of this year. So I'm going to need to deposit 154,000 into RCI.

We booked flights/hotel room package for January to go back to Oahu with our daughter and son-in-law. But I don't want to stay in a hotel room the whole trip. The package with the hotel room included was the same price as booking the flights by themselves, though. Since I'm a spoiled timeshare person that needs their space, I'd like to put in a request for a 1 or 2 bedroom at Wyndham Waikiki Beachwalk or a Hilton. To up my chances, should I deposit the whole 154,000 and make a request for these resorts?

I don't think so.....but I am a Wyn II person....you need the RCI peeps to answer.
In II, 77K 2BR does it for everything, no need to go higher.
And the 28K studio - also very good in II.

Thanks, Pat. I'm wondering if and when RCI ever does bulk banks of Wyndham Waikiki beachwalk deposits. I'm looking for a January 15th or 16th check-in date on Oahu.

put it in as an ongoing search ASAP!
I had luck there for a specific week, and it came through about 10 months out. No guarantee, but I always find, the sooner the better...
used a 1 bedroom blue points.

I believe they depsoit at 10 months for most resorts....
Do a search on the RCI exchange op board and see what has been the pattern of deposit.

It's more like 8-9 months out. Right now, Wyndham has deposited through November for the resorts on the "regular cycle". I don't see this one very often, but I'm also not usually looking for it. I think the HGVCs have come and gone for 2011. I booked a 1BR for May '11 there a month ago.

In RCI, season matters more than size, but there have been some differences noted between a red studio and a red 1BR. Presumably, some differences exist between the red 1BR and 2BR as well. And, unless there's a wyn preference in play, you might not have enough to see it even then.

The other way to go about it is to hope to catch a last-minute week somewhere. Possible.

My gut says do it as a 105, and then deposit the remaining 42 to catch something else, but it's a roll of the dice. You could also just book it internally; a lower 1BR suite is 154K. That's probably what I'd do.

Thanks. I think I'll do the 105 and a 42. I could try the 105 for something in Hawaii and if it doesn't work, I could use it for another Orlando trip.

The Wyndham points that are expiring the end of September I'll deposit in RCI. And I guess the next set of points that roll in I can book the lower one bedroom at Waikiki. Even if I end up with two 1 bedrooms that would be okay because my daughter and son-in-law would like a one bedroom better than a hotel room. I've got a learning curve on how these Wyndham points work when it comes to use year. I know my points refresh in October. I'm used to DVC points and not Wyndham points.

For Orlando, the white studio won't get larger units at better resorts outside 45 days. But, I've had a lot of luck playing "catch and release" there with an ongoing search placed on a visible, initiated just inside the 45 day window until something comes up that I'm willing to keep. Then, call to confirm it onto your generic studio.

I'd be happy with a 1 bedroom at Sheraton Vistana with the 42 deposit.

I got my Wyndham letter in the mail today. We're closed and in the system.

I set up our online account and booked a 1 bedroom suite at Waikiki Beachwalk. Wyndham is going to try to link up my old RCI account with the new purchase number and try to keep my old number. Should take about a week so I didn't deposit the September 30th expiring 2010 points yet with RCI. But I did see where you can do that online apparently - wow.

I love the online search feature for availability. I've never had that capability with my DVC points.

Sorry to jump in late been off line for a few days, and looks you solved your problem as to what to do with your points this year.
When depositing that amount to RCI I would normally agree with depositing 154K as a 105K (1BR red) and then a 42K to pick up another week with.
In the past it always worked out for me that size was not as important as season and a 1BR red and 2BR red would pull similiar. But lately my RCI deposits from Wyndham haven't been pulling nearly as good as they used to and ones I have deposited as 154K (2br reds) are pulling much better than my 105K (1br reds) so the "size isn't important" theory doesn't seem to be holding as well as it used to, at least with Wyndham deposits. As far as things like 28K deposits (studio blues) I don't even bother with them anymore unless I know I will be looking for something somewhere off season at the last minute!!

Thanks, Ken. That's good information re: the 154K deposits. I've noticed that, since 5/30, some resorts have larger units I can't see while there are smaller units I can, so it makes sense that deposits are starting to matter on size too.

Thanks. Wyndham and RCI are still linking up my present RCI account with the new Wyndham points. Hopefully I'll get to deposit next week.

                            Hi gang,

I wanted to give you an update. I deposited 105,000 one bedroom today requesting Hawaii. If that doesn't come through I'll use it for something else.

I did deposit 42,000, too. I used the 42,000 for Orlando. I tried for May 2011 at one of the Hilton's but couldn't get anything. But for a September 2011 check-in I was able to pull Hilton one bedroom units. I know it's low time for Orlando, but that's when we travel so I'm happy. Booked a one bedroom Parc Soleil unit. If I had wanted to exchange for September of 2010, I could pull a Bonnet Creek one bedroom with the 42,000 points.

Just wanted to give you an update on what the 42,000 pulled in Orlando for September off season.
