    I am staying the new wyndham smoky mt lodge in Tennessee. I know a little about the point system. I need help , before I buy.

    1st. I am thinking of buying on the resale market eBay etc. Is this the best option for us?

    2nd. I am wanting to purchase around 1890000 or more for my family to use this resort but we will be coming here on small 2 day trips because we live an hour away, we also homeschool and I run my own biz so we ilk not have to come during peak times. We noticed the points here were like 18000 a day during the week. Per day. But I have read on post that the housekeeping would eat us up in monies and that we. Would be better off to keep renting from friends. Here is my example days. Maybe 4 or so trips at 2 nights each how much would housekeeping costs for additional nights ? Also are there other fees that we will pay?

    3rd.we are currently renting for 125.00 night for a 1 bedroom the owner we rent from has zillions of points should we buy or just keep renting. What are advantages of owning? We have heard that you can get extra trips from rci cheap is this true?

    You are right to be hesitant. Wyndham doesn't really deliver as much value for someone looking to come primarily for short stays in the offseason, because of the HK credit issue. For that visit pattern, you'd be better off renting from VIP owners who have free HK credits and an ample supply of guest certificates.

      With 189k purchase and plan to used in off-season short stop, you are best to rent from VIP, than the 2nd best is get from eBay.

      18000 per day, 2 day is 36000. You check in after 4pm and check out at 10 am. The room sounds like 2Bd, so it is 77Hk per trip. You get 189 HK, for 4 stays, you will be 119 HK short, that is over $250 cost. MF for 189k is about $900, so each trip will cost you around $300 before any purchase. Which if you try to get rent from eBay, you may end up spend much less.

      Add in purchase cost, you are on the lossing end of the game.

      Even assume you rent from Plantimun VIP and they charge you $20 per 1K including GC. With off season, they probably can get with 9000 points with room upgrade and discount. So that is 135 per trip. Even if they only get discount at 50%, it is $360 for you, and you have all the flexibility, plus you may find a lot owner don't charge $20 perK, they do add in GC cost though.

      I will be friend with some plantimun VIP if I were you and forget all those purchase business.

        Actually it is a 1bedroom d because of the huge watermark. Thanks jya-Ning for help. I have been paying 125.00 night two nights 250.00 I think is a good price. And the VIP is great to work with. Thanks for help.

          If it is 1BD, VIP can only get discount but no upgrade. The HK will be 63 per trip, so you will be 63 short. So if you own, your trip cost will be around $250 before any purchase cost, possible transaction cost consideration.

          Renting is much better in this case, just give the owner few month head start.

            My VIP called yesterday in room now! Wow. , She is the best , when got to resort she upgraded us to 2 bedroom free, Thanks for all you help. I almost went to tour and got put under spotlight (grin). You all saved me a lot of money.
