  • Thinking BC and something in Atlantic City. Advice? Newbie needs help!

Hello all! New here, lurked for about 2 months before joining, joined, then lurked a bit longer before posting.

Hubby and I (well, mostly me) have been researching timeshares. We think we have decided on Wyndham as being our first venture. We're going to go the ebay route for our first purchase. Right now, I am thinking of doing a purchase at Bonnet Creek for about 150-250k points. Then later down the road another purchase of a property, probably in Atlantic City for about 200k points give or take based on first purchase. Our goal is to own about 300-400k points.

We plan on using the timeshare to get at least one week in BC in a 1BR presidential (or 2BR b/c I think I read somewhere that 1BR presidential and 1BR in general are not common there) most likely in the off season as we enjoy Disney without kids currently and so we can go without worry of school schedules at the moment. We would want to trade into RCI for another week somewhere, some years it may be Caribbean, some years it may be domestic. Right now, we have not set our sights on Europe, but plan to take our first European vacation probably in 2014 or so.

Does our game plan make sense? Right now, I know that DVC does not allow trades into their property if you are trading with a property owned within 30 miles of WDW. This is why we have decided we want one purchase at BC, to get us to Disney when we want to go. Plus, from what I can see BC is much more spacious than any DVC I've stayed in.

Our thought was the other property we purchase could be used to trade into DVC if for some reason we really need that. My question is, esp under the new RCI set up, is there a Wyndham property that is better or worse for that? Is Atlantic City strong enough? Should we be looking elsewhere? I don't want a place with ridiculous MF's. Also, under the new guidelines, which I'm still trying to understand, would you think a red studio would pull DVC, or should we plan on enough points for something bigger? Different season?

Lastly, we're wondering what everyone's experiences are trading into RCI for Caribbean places? We've been to Aruba and would like to go back, but we'd like to see the rest of the islands too. I've done Nassau, not necessarily in a rush to go back there, but would do it again I suppose.

What about trading into Europe. Anything in the Wyndham arsenal strong enough for that? Or does the property not matter? I thought I remembered that when you trade you can request generic or a 'searchable' property but it seems to me that the property that is banked isn't always your home property? Is this true or am I confused?

    Thanks all!

    Nikki
