Not really.
From its founding in 1974 by Jon and Christal DeHaan, RCI remained an independent company until 1996.
In 1996 Hospitality Franchise Systems (HFS) purchased RCI.
In 1997 Hospitality Franchise Systems (HFS), a travel and hospitality company, and Comp-U-Card (CUC) International, a direct marketing company, merged to form Cendant Corporation.
In 2005 Cendant Corporation purchased the remains of the Wyndham hotel franchise operation, which included the rights to the Wyndham name, from the Blackstone Group. Blackstone Group had purchased Wyndham International, kept part, and sold the rest off piecemeal.
In 2006 Cendant was renamed Wyndham Worldwide and Group RCI (formerly, Resort Condominiums International) is a division of this firm.

Cendant
The company announced on Oct. 24 (2005) that it will divide into four different companies. Cendant will spin off 100% of the equity of the three new companies to its shareholders in the summer of 2006.
One company will consist of Cendant's hospitality businesses, including the Ramada, Howard Johnson, and Days Inns hotel brands. The other three will focus on: real estate, including the Century 21 and Coldwell Banker brands; travel booking[/B], including Orbitz, Galileo, and Cheap Tickets brands; and the Avis and Budget car-rental businesses.
For all practical purposes, RCI is Wyndham (buried amongst the rental companies).

Trading actually has become worse. You can't do a search first anymore. If you are Gold VIP and not just VIP. I am going to be selling my Wyndham timeshare because it is going down hill. I look at it being my worst investment of a lifetime. All the lies and promises they made are all now out the door and so will my timeshare. I am going to stop paying maintenance fees altogether next month.
