Exchanging with RCI

Now that we have the RCI portal in Wyndham do we have to exchange online?

Or can we just call in the old fashioned way to the RCI desk?

I don't know how many points to deposit to do an exchange.
I'm afraid if I deposit points and by the time they do the transaction, what I want to get in exchange might be gone and then I'll have too many points deposited.

I have not and given the values to do so, am unlikely to use RCI exchanges through Wyndham again.

Why do you not know the how many points to deposit to do an exchange, it is readily available in the Members directory.

As to the real question, they, until the latest changes had the ability to transfer points and book immediately. I would not expect that to have gone away so my suggestion would be to call, there should be no need to do exclusively online. They (Wyndham) are dealing with a demographic which I think may be much older than you or I where computer use may light.

You r no longer able to deposit points into RCI.
There is a crossover grid - it is not in your favor.
It cost many more points to get the same exchange.
the best use of Wyndham points is now to book a Wyndham resort directly.

You can still deposit a reserved week with SFX, TPI, other independents.
You must also use/pay for a guest cert.

Not a good thing.

I would search thru the RCI portal for an exchange I wanted first. That would show you the points needed. If you are willing to part with the required points, call in and see if they will deposit the points and book it immediately for you over the phone. You will pay the higher "phone" exchange fee instead of online $179 fee but would not risk loosing the week while waiting 24 hours for your deposit to show.

I haven't heard of anyone trying this yet with the new portal, so wondering if phoning in to book something immediately with RCI will work. Let us know if you try it.

I thought you have some VIP level? I believe if you are gold+ VIP, you can use the on-line portal to do deposit and reserve at the same time. Otherwise, you have to call VC and pay extra fee.

Because if I deposit something assuming I can get what I want in say the quiet season it takes something like 48 hours to confirm the deposit. By then the unit may be gone so then I'd have to probably increase my points to get something else worthwhile or be stuck with a deposit I don't want anymore and would rather use internally. Like what happened to me with my 28K and 70K deposits. I would have rather used them internally, had I known what I know now.

Sorry Chris - I thought this worked the same as the BG/RCI portal - where u confirm online and BG then deducts the points from your account.

Did not realize u needed to deposit points into RCI first before you can exchange.

That could REALLY be a problem.

Yes it sucks. At least they let you search first so if I see something I really want I'll have to call in and hope that they'll do it over the phone in time.

If you are VIP Gold or higher they do let you book without depositing first. They just kept it as a VIP incentive. So it's definetly possible.

They can keep their incentive and just maybe I'll keep my exchange fee.

Obviously for us 2nd rate resale Wyndham buyers, our exchange fees are not wanted or needed. Fine by me as I'll just use them internally like I originally planned in the first place. I'm fine doing Bonnet Creek.

I don't think it is quite that dire. You just have to be a little more proactive. It looks like the seasonal grid is consistent across different resorts within the same area. So, you can predict what it will take for a deposit that isn't there yet, but you expect to see, and deposit appropriately. Because they have a two-year lifespan, you can also account for slight over-deposits by rolling forward to the next year, as long as you plan to make at least one exchange per year.

Or, you can just sulk. Up to you.
