  • HK Fees with Resale Points

Hello, my in-laws are about to buy a resale package for ~175,000 Wyndham points. I am trying to help them fully understand how the program works without the VIP status. The main thing I am concerned about is the HK fees.

Earlier the following was posted. "Every 1000k you own will give you one free HK, it is associate with the point. HK Credit per stay that is within 7 days
    Stdio 1BR 2BR 3BR 4BR
    28 63 77 140 154
So if you make 2 reservations, one is stdio 3 days and the other is 2Br 10 days, it will cost you 28 + 77 + 77 or 182 credits. If you make one reservation within 7 days but it is split with different units, it will be counted as twice. You can purchase more HK. Currently, it will be $1.5 per credit. You can also borrow from your next use year for the Express Reservation, it will move points, plus HK credit with a formula I have no idea what it is."

Would they still get 175 HK credits even though they have resale points? Or are the credits only given to VIP members? I want to make sure they wouldn't have to pay the 182 HK credits in the scenario shown above. I'm assuming they would only have to pay 182 - 175 = 7 HK fees.

Yes, they would still get 175HK credits, and in the scenario above, they would pay for 7. The difference is that some VIP levels have HK waived completely.

I am not positive, but I believe the cost per HK credit is now more than $1.50

Good point. I want to say it might be $2.25, but I've never had to purchase them, as I usually make reservations in high/prime time, where the point costs > HK credits.

No matter what they cost in over 15 years of Wyndham ownership/use we never paid for housekeeping fees. No VIP involved. To even think it is worth trying to be VIP for that "benefit" is a total waste of time, money and effort.

Having fees of a few dollars "waived" is practically worthless and certainly not worth the outrageous amount it takes to get it under today's rules. Add in that whatever benefits they do offer are in no way guaranteed and cannot be transferred on resale & clearly VIP has no value.

If ever needed pay the few dollars for HK & be thankful you didn't waste up to tens of thousands of dollars for retail Wyndham points. They are never worth the cost.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. It's great to hear that it is not very common to have to pay for the HK fees. It makes me feel a little more comfortable about buying Wyndham resale. Just wanted to make sure there weren't any hidden charges.
