  • should I buy from developer to get CWP?? help needed!

    HI All,

This is my first post on the board. I have, however, come on here to do some research in the past and loved all of the info!

I hope you all can help - I have a few questions. I bought Wyndham points resale and I am really liking what I have so far. I used them to go to Vegas and the stay was great.

While in Vegas, we were invited to an "Owners Meeting" to help us learn about using our points. Well it was really them trying to SELL us more points. We were told that with relsale we had no perks, we could not rent our timeshare through their company, were not able to use CWP (club wyndham points I think), and could not get the discount hotels, blah blah

Well, they got us to buy a small contract. They sold us 28,000 points for 6,500 to transfer all of our points to CWP (even the relate ones). So basically we are paying over 6K to have CWP.

Do you guys think that's worth it? I can still cancel, and I am leaning that way. I just want to know what your thoughts are . Are the extra benefits worth it? The sales lady kept saying she could "rent and pay for maintenance fees".

    Any help would be great!

    Thanks!!

    TB

NO, it is definitely not worth it. Rescind as quickly as possible.

So the CWP benefits are not worth it? She said that I could rent the timeshare and help pay my MF. She was also saying I can use the program to rent hotels with the partners for 6,000 points or so.

In your experience, have these benefits really been good or just trying to get us to buy?

      Thanks!

Generally, it is not worth it.

But, how many resale point they let you put into the new contract? If over 1 M, it maybe in bordeline O.K. But you need to make sure they have the contract tied with Plantimun VIP. If they take away your VIP, the contract is void and they need to return all the 6500 back.

Is CWP president club? Is it president club? The MF should be a little bit higher because the decor should be better in the long run.

You can do that now with your resale Wyndham point.

Maybe Wyndham will help you rent if you buy from them, but you can rent your use privately whenever you want.

I'm not sure that I could justify spending 6K so that someone could help me rent my TS. It also wouldn't be worth it to me to buy a TS and rent it out to cover my dues. No point in owning a TS.

Keep reading around here. You can look up what owners are charging for renting their units on Redweek.com.

Also, look realistically at any perks and discounts that you would actually use. How long would it take for you to break even on your 6K? Perks can change anytime, as well.

I own 290,000 points that I bought from resale. The $6,500 pays for 28,000 extra points and the ability to link all of my points and be eligible for the Club Wyndham Points benefits.

I did ask if I would be considered a VIP since I'd have over 300k points, but they said no, since most of my points are from resale.

As I type this it is becoming more and more clear that I pretty much paid over 6K to USE the perks in the program. I originally bought the points to use them, so I don't plan on renting the unit if I don't have to. And the extra benefit with the hotel partners, airlines, and so forth, I don't think I'll use much either.

I'm going to go ahead and cancel this right now. The one thing I do see is how they try and make resale buyers feel like 2nd class citizens. I just couldn't justify paying what the developer was asking for the same number of points I bought on-line.

They not only try but they actually lie about it. I am glad you are canceling it.

With resale point, you have all the Club Wyndham Points benefits, with only 3 differences
                  1. You don't have access to RCI point resort (most owner don't use that)
                  2. You can not move your point toward VIP (you will need to pay them $30,000 for that title)
                  3. You can not move point to their reward card point (the best reward card is the one pay you cash back, Wyndham's is not that type)

So, 6,500 make no sense at all.

They treat their developer purchaser as the scarified lamb. So, you are the only citizen there.

I believe the benefit the sales department was referring to is Plus Partners that comes with a retail purchase. I have never used it. Besides that, what sales neglected to mention is that Plus Partners can be added to a resale account by contacting corporate office for around $2,500. Sounds alot better that $6,500, no? Still not worth it in my opinion.

                      Glad you decided to rescind!

Good work - you discovered the truth about the system and now realize they were presenting nothing but misrepresentations to get you to buy something you don't need for far too much!

The very points they want to sell you become the dreaded "resale points" if you tire of them and transfer them to a new owner. So when they disparage them they are devaluing the very product you are being asked to buy. What a great (NOT!) sales scheme! You were very wise to rescind. Congratulations. Don't ever even think about a developer purchase again as all of them are not good values no matter what the name or sales pitch says. Resale is the only smart way to buy any timeshare.

Thank you for the great information!

What is RCI point resort? Can I still trade witH RCI? I'm hoping I can because that would give me more options. Are there restrictions since I'm a resale owner?

Yes, you can trade with RCI with resale Wyndham points. You simply use the RCI exchange portal on the Wyndham site. Many of us feel that exchanging through RCI is not generally a good value/use of Wyn points, unless you are trading into a high value resort such as Manhatten Club. Don't get confused by RCI threads about TPUs, they don't apply with Wyndham.

You can trade using RCI which is Wyndham designated exchange company. There are others you can exchanges too. For RCI, you can only do week exchange or whatever RCI put into their week exchange pool (RCI sometimes put some partial week there).

RCI does have resorts put into point, which you can get as few days instead of whole week. You can give Wyndham 2,395 to add that into your account and pay few extra every year for that privilege. You can play with what you have now for a while until you figure all these then you can make a good decision if you really need to add these into your travel mix.
