  • Wyndham points deposited to RCI: Expiration dates

I just had a very confusing conversation with an RCI VC.

I'm trying to figure out when I should deposit some points for an exchange to happen *either* in February 2013 *or* 2014. Obviously, I would like to deposit earlier rather than later to make sure that I get the earliest possible initiation date for my ongoing search. But, I don't want to deposit them *too* early, because I don't want them to expire before the potential 2014 exchange. And, as of today, there is no way to extend the expiration date on deposited Wyndham points, so I want to be sure I get this right.

In the "old system", where we deposited Generics, a deposit made on February 1st, 2012 would be good for an exchange beginning on or before February 28th, 2014. However, the Directory's precise language for the new deposit mechanism says:

Your deposit will be available for an exchange reservation for 2 years from the date of the deposit
    (emphasis mine)

So, I called to see whether it was end-of-month two years hence, or day-of-deposit two years hence. This brings me to the confusing point. He said it was based on *use year*, not *date of deposit*. In other words a deposit of 2012 UY points, from a Jan-Dec use year, would be good until January 2014, no matter when they were deposited.

So, to try to understand how this *really* works, I'd like to ask anyone who has points on deposit with RCI to tell me:

1: When did you make the deposit? (Date if possible, but "middle of November 2011" is fine)
2: When are the points listed to expire? (You can get this from the Wyndham-RCI Portal account front page)
3: What was the Use Year of those points?

    Thanks!

    Deposit at earlier Dec, 2011

Point list to be expired at 12/31/2013. Which is the same as old rule

The Wyndham expired use year is Dec 2011.

However, this is a twist. I have only 126k left. When I talked to the Wyndham VG, I should be able to make another deposit when I want. Than can combine that deposit with older deposit anytime to make reservation. The only restriction is I have deposit 27k min.

Not sure if I will be charge the combine fee, since this is kind of like left over point, I will play it along.

With a January UY, it could also be "expire at the end of the end of two more Use Years", and that's consistent with the VC's explanation (though he was off by a year in his example).

But, yes, you can use any deposited points that are active for the exchange you are hoping to make. There isn't a notion of a "combine fee" as far as I know.

O.K. I see where the issue is. Sorry, I don't have any deposit made before the last month of the use year

Either way, it might not matter. At the very worst, it is end-of-the-month two years hence.

I made 2 deposits of points into RCI on December 28, 2011. One was 115,000 points of my remaining 2011 points and the other was 109,000 of 2012 points. Both went into RCI just fine and I have a deposit of 224,000 points.

What's interesting is when I go to RCI through the Wyndham portal, my deposit account shows the 224,000 points and a 6/30/2014 expiration date, 2 yrs and 6 months.

I am a regular VIP but I don't know why I got the extra 6 month expiration date. All of my contracts are January 1 Use Year.

If you make your deposit, please post whether your expiration date is 2 yrs or something different.

            ________________________

You can add deposits from different Use Years and they all go into a "points pot". The RCI account will show different expiration dates from the date of deposit not Use Year. For my deposits that I made above from 2 Use Years, they all expire on the same date. I have 224,000 points to exchange. If I use 143,000 for a one BR, I can deposit more points to bring my total up to 224,000 again.

There's no combine fee, just transaction and housekeeping fees or tokens needed for the deposit.

Did you ever have a July UY?

I'm thinking this might be time for me to send a carefully worded email to RCI support. They take their time with an answer, but usually come through with good information.

This is really odd. I had 294K points left in my year ending 12/31/11. I deposited early Dec. thinking of the old rules that they would be good until 12/31/13. Just checked and they expire 7/31/2014!

I have never had a July use year - only Jan-Dec. I am VIP Gold ... maybe a VIP benefit? Have no idea. Let us know if you find out anything.

I'm thinking maybe the expiration date has something to do with the renewal date of your RCI account. I say this because all of the expiration dates shown on the RCI page for me end 7/31/XX for each year but have no points until 2014 because this is my first time depositing extra points, not just what I needed for an exchange.

Can anyone else verify their point expiration dates are the same as their account renewal dates?

No, all of my contracts are January1 Use Years. Never had any other start date for a Use Year.

You may be on to something here. I know that Wyndham renews my RCI account in June of each year.

I have July use year also, and my RCI membership is started/ended at Feb.

But the bottom part of the deposit that shows my point is Dec.

My list (which is empty---I have nothing on deposit) shows only 12/31 expiration dates as well. But, my account is good through March.

I wonder if we all got assigned random months for our "year". So, you get at least two years, and maybe more, depending....

It could be, if that is the case, it is pretty good.

I may deposit my July points for testing.
