  • Thinking about buying into Wyndham

My wife and I are thinking about buying points into Wyndham, but had a few questions.

We are in our 40's with two children, 7 and 5, and are considering buying only on the resale market. We did go to a timeshare presentation and the amounts they want to charge are unreal in this economy. The salesman said he just couldn't figure us out, as we had rented timeshare weeks many times, but didn't see the value of buying. If he can't figure out why we didn't buy from him, I amazed he learned how to tie his shoes.

I've read here that the VIP status won't transfer, I'm not really sure what that is, can someone please tell me what we would be missing by buying resale? Would we miss out on the Perks program which we think is options to use points at hotels, cruises, and airline tickets too?

Also, Given the ages of our kids, and the fact we went to the area before we had kids and still had a great time, we'd like to buy in the Kissemmee area, probably Bonnet Creek, as our home resort.

My question is, does it really matter where our home resort is? Does it make more sense to buy somewhere with a lower maintenance fee and transfer in? We probably won't go to our home resort often as we like to go different places on vacation. That was one of the reasons we are looking at Wyndham is the amount of resorts available w/o a transfer fee. We also live in the Nashville area, so it's fairly easy and quick to get most places in the continental US, which is where we mainly plan on vacationing.

Thanks for any answers or advice you might have.

Yes all those ancillary things do not transfer

No, unless you need the highest demanded weeks

Yes, as points are points inside the 11 month window.

Owning in Nashville may allow you some day use, I don't know for sure but I would check that out before I bought.

biggest bennie, in my opinion, is steep discounts in points for your reservation, when available, at 45days or less out.

The purchase of timeshare for any other purpose than timeshare is almost always a waste. The developer just makes more money when they give you airline tix, miles, hotels, or cars. Sure, if you've got points that'll expire - but then you weren't doing your homework and using your timeshare. The salesman will always pitch all this as things you'll be missing.
