  • Buying Fixed Weeks to convert to points

After doing a little research and asking questions, I think I have made up my mind to buy some fixed weeks and convert them to points in order to reach Platinum VIP. Before I do, does anyone have any precautions I should take? Any advice on any aspect of this process?

    Thanks!

I think you know you should be VERY selective in what you buy so as to get the most bang for your maint fee buck.

How much will WYN charge you per week to convert and are your SURE they will allow you to apply these new conversions to VIP status???

I believe in general to convert a fixed week it is in the neighborhood of $2000-$2500 per week and if you did not buy the fixed week directly from the developer the points still won't count toward VIP. So if you have owned fixed week that you bought from Fairfield back in the 80's or 90's and are just getting around to converting to points they may count toward VIP but if you buy an unconverted week resale it will not count. I don't think Wyndham is going to put anything in writing until you are signing on the dotted line giving them money. So you are not going to get it in writing (if at all) until you are already the owner of several fixed weeks managed my Wyndham. If it is do-able at all I bet you would have to go through a corporate sales office (not a local sales site). I heard someone had luck buying fixed weeks from an Wyndham HOA and having the weeks converted and count toward VIP. My understanding is that the weeks were off season weeks which were not eligible for a good conversion of MF's to points and still cost in the $3000-$4000 range (including conversion) each. I think HOA's are now able to dump these types of weeks into the Club Wyndham Access (CWA) trust so this may no longer be possible either. Wyndham has worked very hard to close as many loopholes as possible to get to VIP without the large developer purchases.
