  • Are only Gold and Platinum members able to transfer membership to your children ?

Can members below Gold and Platinum levels transfer ownership to their children that are in their 60's now with the benefits that are acquired with these lower levels or do you lose these benefits when doing so?
Parents in their 80's were told in a sales meeting that were below Gold that they needed to move up to Gold to transfer membership with full benefits to their children. Anybody below Gold could NOT do so. True or False?

I am not a Wyndham expert by any means - but I know for certain that with Marriott, Starwood and Bluegreen - that transfers within the family (parents/grandparents/children) retain all benefits of the original ownership.

Sounds as if the salesperson was trying to scare the owners into buying more points to protect their rights.
What a slimy thing to do

Yes, the salesperson DID scare our parents into buying more points with this tactic. They certainly didn't need more points at their age in the 80"s.
Has anyone else heard of this sales tactic with Wyndham? This was done at Bonnet Creek.

I refer you to pages 330-331, and page 335 (if you have a "grandfathered" VIP status) of the current Club Wyndham Plus directory.

First, it looks like for the VIP benefits to transfer to an Immediate Relative, the transfer has to be by will or intestate succession (dying without a will). It looks like a living transfer of the contracts/points will not do it. However, you might think about transferring your contracts/points to an intervivos trust and name your children as current beneficiaries along with yourselves. This may work.

Second, if you have a VIP benefit account that was owned prior to November 1, 2012, then for the Immediate Relative to maintain that VIP status, the transfer will maintain the VIP benefit so long as you transfer at least 300,000 points. (p. 335).

All VIP levels are able to transfer to Immediate Relatives. It's not just limited to Gold or Platinum owners.

Thanks so much for the info.
Can I ask another question? They are now up to 600,000 points. What would the maintenance fees be on that amount of points?

Unfortunately, without more information, that cannot be determined. The MF depends on the type of ownership they have and whether their MF are set by a specific resort(s) or an average (Club Wyndham Access). You should be able to ask your folks what it is. I suspect that the range will be $2500 to $3500 per year.
