  • Obviously I've been asleep at the switch

DH is going through the mail the other day and yells up the stairs. "Hon? Why do we have a personal information mailer from Wyndham?"

"Damned if I know sweetie. We don't own Wyndham"

    dot. dot dot.

So I'm looking at posts today and see Mike's <mshatty> signature. Fairfield/Wyndham. and dawn comes with a thundering crash. We own a resort which WAS/IS RCIM which is sorta/kinda now Fairfield which is I guess now Wyndham?

Now the Fairfield change did add a few Fairfield resorts to our no charge in-house exchange family but not ALL of the fairfields.

Can someone give me a 101 on what this means to us if anything?

    Lawren,

What resort do you own that is connected with Fairfield/Wyndham, sort of?

At this point, Fairfield Vacation Resorts has been renamed Wyndham Vacation Resorts. There have been 5 Wyndham hotels added as "associate hotels" and points owners can now reserve them for stays without any exchange fees.

Also, Wyndham has announced a 20% discount to its best published rates for its Wyndham hotels and a 15 - 20% discount on its other hotel/motel chains. You have to book them through a special link at the Fairfield/Wyndham website.

There are some undisclosed or unanswered questions at this time, like for example, the Pahio resorts in Hawaii and where and how they will fit in.

So far, Wyndham has announced that immediately, Fairfield is re-branded to Wyndham Vacation Resorts. It will take about 1 year to complete that transistion. There will be future announcements as to how, what, when and where the Wyndham brand will be incorporated into its other vacation businesses.

      Foxrun Townhouses

We own at Foxrun and have been getting information from them, too. I remembered with I purchased this timeshare, the realtor mentioned some association with Fairfield - kinda of like a fourth cousin, I guess. Must be part of their marketing campaign to increase sales.

Mike I own one of the Preferred Status Exchange resorts. Here is a list of the family that I can exchange at no cost into. The second group with a $59 exchange fee were added around the time that RCI-Management was changed to Fairfield.

The following resorts have been members of Preferred Status since prior to Jan. 1994:

        Laguna Surf, Laguna Beach, CA
        Pono Kai, Kapaa, Kauai, HI
        Pacific Fantasy, Kapaa, Kauai, HI
Plaza Resort & Spa, Palm Springs, CA
Inn at Silver Lakes, Helendale, CA
        Park Regency, Park City, UT
San Luis Bay Inn, Avila Beach, CA
        Havasu Dunes, Lake Havasu, AZ
        Vista Mirage, Palm Springs, CA
        Heidelberg Inn, June Lake, CA
Club Lakeridge, Reno, NV (limited Preferred Status privileges)

as of January 2004 these additional resorts were availabe for Network Exchange for $59/week. Preferred time is also available :

Branson Yacht Club - Branson, MO
Cedar Ridge at the Woods Resort - Branson, MO
Emerald Point Resort - Hollister, MO
        Painted Mountain - Mesa, AZ
Vacation Suites at Tunica - Tunica MS
        Dolphins Cove - Anaheim, CA

Please refer to Preferred Status Exchange directory for additional terms and conditions or call RCI Management, Inc. 800.647.8001

There may have been other additional resorts added since I've last called for an updated list. They have never been very good about mailing things other than bills.

I still call that same toll free number but when I pay my MF it is at a Fairfield website. So...as Eric says in his post; my resort , Havasu Dunes, is like a distant kissing cousin. Sorta/kinda Fairfield.

Lawren, we got the same letter you got too. I have called Wyndham at the numbers they gave me but nobody could find me in their data base or had any answers to my questions. I know for sure that we do not own or have owned a timeshare at Fairfield or Trendwest as this number was mentioned too.

Also, the web site address they gave in this letter doesn't work and nobody knew department #31 but I got there eventually from one operator to the other. The front doesn't know what the back is doing here.

Our little independent resort (Laguna Surf) is also managed by Fairfield so it must have to do with that. I called Laguna Surf and the new desk clerk told me that we are owned by Wyndham. What a shock that was but it isn't true because I called our HOA President again and nothing has changed. Our HOA is very much in charge of what is going on at our resort. This is quite different at the Marriott or at other big developers too where they are still selling or never leave the board completely once they are sold out. I have read enough about it here.
