  • Buying Resale

I currently own with fairfield. I have 154,000 points. My husband and I would like to buy more points but can't afford full price. I was thinking about buying something on ebay or with a different resale company. A fairfield salesperson told me there are certain restrictions and limilations with using resale points. Does anyone know anything about this?

    Buying FF resale

The salesperson is simply trying to scare you. They want the commission on a full retail sale. There have been rumors for years that FF will try to diminish a resale points owner's privileges, but nothing has been done so far. Buying resale, you pay 1 to 2 cents per points vs. 16.5 cents per point retail. Only restriction is that they don't count towards any VIP levels. Otherwise there's no difference in your ability to ARP a reservation at the "Resale" resort or in booking at another resort at the ten month window.

If you're not a member of the FF Yahoo Timeshare group, join there. This is a frequent topic for many owners and would be owners.

You may also consider renting points from other FF owners on this forum. Then you don't have any outlay for owning the points or risk of special assessments. You simply pay the actual FF owner an equivalent amount of the MFs on the points. Renting from the FF Yahoo board typically runs $5 to $6.25 per thousand points.

I second what CC dad has to say. It looks like w/ your current point total you don't have VIP. Some people value the use of VIP, but unfortunately the back doors used to get it cheaper have been slammed shut. My original points were also from the developer, but when I decided to get more points I through resale. The cost per point is truly a small fraction of the developer price. I just closed an ebay deal for a resale property. I paid 1.7 cents/1000 points (that includes closing costs). I was also careful to choose a deal w/ low maint. fees.

You should also know that Partner's Plus (PP) doesn't transfer w/ resale. I don't find Partner's Plus of great value either. If you by chance already have PP w/ your current points they may allow you to use your additional resale points in the PP system. I know if you already have VIP, new points can be used w/ the VIP discounts and so-called privileges. You just can't earn VIP status or upgrade your VIP level w/ resale points.

I wish you well with your new purchase.

Plus Partners is an account attribute, if your account is PP, ALL your points are PP, resale or not.

So far, besides VIP (if you get it, all the resell points can enjoy the benefit) and PP (which if you already have it, all resell points is in), the only difference I know is when you go to owner update, if you don't own resell points, they will say your point will not longer be able to used in the new Wyndham resort. Or your point will not be good unless you roll all of them into one resort. If you own resell point, they will say your points will be very restrict in any Fairfield resort. depends on the saleperson, some may say you will have problem even with your own resorts. But you will get you gift in the end. And if you willing to sit with them longer, some of them will try to offer you resell package.

On the other hand, the two new programs the corp. just push out recently - Outrigger club and point for Wyndham Hotel has no restriction at all. Of course, if it become really good selling tool, be fully expect the condition resell point will not count toward get into the club or xxx. But don't point this to any sell person. It is not polite to hit them and still get their gift.

Outrigger is retail only and only for the points you own at actual Outrigger resorts in Hawaii.

It is a CONTRACT attribute, just like ARP.

Not sure if it transfers on resale.
