  • FF won't let me exchange with TPI

Hello, I need help. I just called FF to bank/exchange my 2007 points with Trading Places and they said I can't do that. I'm not a member of ORC and therefore, I am not allowed to exchange with TPI. Is this correct? (I own the FF resort in Anaheim. Does that make a difference?) From reading the forums, I thought that you, as an owner, can bank your pts. with whomever you want. They said I'm only allowed to bank with RCI because that's the exchange company that I am assigned to. I was all set to book my Hawaii exchange and now I'm stuck. Please help!!!

Other FF people will be along soon I am sure but you are not 'banking points' with TPI - you have to make a reservation with FF using your points for a week accomodation at a FF resort. Then you give TPI that week that you have reserved.
Does that make sense to you?

So what I have to do is make a reservation at my home resort (for any week or the same week that I want?), then exchange that week with TPI? Is that right? Does it matter that my timeshare is located in CA and not HI? Thanks for replying, GrayFal!

No it does not matter. Reserve the size of unit you want to trade for at TPI or you get charged a size upgrade fee. TPI will take any week you reserve so use as few of your points that you can and book a week with a unit size you want/or can trade for in HI, then deposit that week with TPI.

I don't own FF points but from what I understand you should be able to do at least that.

And no, you don't have to reserve a HI week. Reserve any 2 bedroom week, then deposit that with TPI and request a HI week for the dates you want in exchange. Again, not a FF expert, but that's the general way to do it.

Yup, that is how it works - reserve the SIZE unit you want at your home resort and then deposit it with TPI - they will confirm the reservation number with FF and once confirmed, you will be able to place your request for Hawaii with TPI.
The week you reserve at your home resort does NOT have to be the same week you want to travel.

Let us know how you make out.

As I understand it, the reservation does not have to be at your home resort. It can be any week you reserve with FF. Just be sure it is reserved out far enough that TPI will accept it.

                Giving a week to TPI

The only reason you would be limited to reserving the week at your home resort is because you want to reserve greater than 10 months in advance of travel date. (You can start reserving home resort at 13 months in advance).

Where ever you reserve make sure TPI says, in advance, they will take that FF resort, and week, in exchange. Once you have the confirmed reservation TPI will take over the mechanics of putting the week in their inventory.

Note: Make sure to reserve the SIZE unit that you want to get in an exchange via TPI. TPI exchanges are "like for like" so the size you deposit is the size they will give you. It might be worth it to pay the TPI upgrade fee for a larger size if you don't have enough Fairfield points in your account to reserve the largest size unit you'll need.

So what is the latest you can deposit in TPI?

Earliest is obviously 13 months if you ARP a week at your home resort.

No trading power? Any old week?

There is no trading power. A week is a week is a week. They don't have seasons. Size matters. Deposit what you want on your exchange or pay a $200 size upgrade fee.

If you want a bonus week for your week deposit at least 4 months prior to check-in.

We would have to check with Marcie on the "Ask Trading Places" forum but I think if you deposit less than 60 days out that they won't guarantee you an exchange unless someone takes the week you deposit.

                        Hello, everyone.
First of all, I would like to thank everyone for posting replies to me. I did what everyone suggested. I booked a 2BR in FF Orlando in November to exchange with TPI. I just got off the phone with FF and they're saying I still can't bank the week I booked with TPI. Their reason is because I have to actually own a Hawaii timeshare that I can exchange with TPI. I thought that I can own anywhere, book anywhere (as long as TPI accepts it) and bank/exchange with TPI but FF won't let me. Am I missing something? I don't want to beat a deadhorse here, you know. I am totally confused. Please help!

Federal anti-restrictive trade practices prevent Fairfield from interfering with you depositing your week with any exchange company you choose. Now that you have booked the week, you don't need to talk with Fairfield any longer. Just contact Trading Places with the information about the week, they will send you a permission form for depositing with them and they will take care of the rest.

That does not make any sense at all. You have a booked week.....call TPI tell them the week you want to bank, and fill out the paperwork they require, and they will contact FF or the resort to get it deposited. Stay on top of it to be sure it happens. It should not take very long.

I just wanted to chime in and say "what they said." Fairfield is in bed with RCI, and they aren't used to the independents. Let TPI take it from here.
