FF still has to tell TPI that you have that week rez. They may choose to say "no". It has been reported O.Y. that many resorts, over the years, have refused to allow owners to deposit with "other" Exchange companies. Is that legal? Probably not but you may be stuck unless you can get the Board to allow it or have a lawyer contact FF. This will cost some bucks. Best of luck. I hope it works out for you. Keep us informed.

      Glitter,
I had a feeling that was the reason behind FF denying me my request. They put me on hold a long time to probably rehearse what they have to say to me. I kept insisting that I believed that you don't need to own a HI timeshare to use TPI if you have a week already reserved to exchange. I said I understand that if you want to bank points, you need to own a HI timeshare but not if you're exchanging a reserved week. I guess I'll call TPI and give them all my info and let them take care of it for me.

Thanks to all who responded and keep them coming. It's very informative and a learning experience for a novice like me.

The independents are used to outfits like FF trying to prevent clients from depositing their weeks. They have their ways of handling it and I'm sure they have their own canned speeches/letters written by lawyers to explain your rights.

Leave it with TPI to sort out.

You were put on hold for a long time because the drop out rate for the FF VC's is high. The VC did not understand what you were trying to do. (you ever try to order something off the menu at mcdonalds...try ordering a root beer float, cant be done...order root beer and a dish of ice cream instead).

As we told you earlier, dont call FF for the transfer....call TPI.

You have your reservation - do not call fairfield again about this reservation.
Contact TPI and they will handle it from now on.

I gave SFX a Marriott week - it took 10 days but the week was finally confirmed into my SFX account - it is not the 'usual' as most Marriott owners deposit with II but the week WAS finally confirmed.

Be prepared to wait a little while for the paperwork to go thru but you will be successful!

You don't have to tell FF ANYTHING.

              Just reserve a week.

              Call TPI.

Tell them you want to bank a week.

Fill out whatever form they have.

Relax and wait for TPI to confirm.

              Make your exchange.

              Take your vacation.

              Enjoy.

              Stan

BTW, I just made a rez online added (ordered) a GC for SFX online and never even talked to a FF rep.

I suspect you can do TPI exactly the same way.

Thank you to all soooo much!!! You guys are the best. You don't know how much you've helped me learn about timesharing and exchanging. I did what everyone said and called TPI, deposited my week, signed the verification form and am now waiting for the confirmation that my week has been banked and the Big Island here we come . I just have to see about adding another week in another island to make it a worthwhile trip since I'll be coming from NYC. Maybe I'll try the RCI search first with the least amount of points to use to see how that goes. I've been curious how that works and it might be fun to try. Again, thanks to all!!!

Mutual we have a great group here and glad you have experienced first hand all the assistance and experience we can offer.

Interval has search first not RCI. You must deposit and give up the rights to your week before you can search with RCI.

Looking in RCI for your timeframes with a very very strong trader there is NO, ZIP, NADA, ZILCH availability in RCI today. If you can bear the stress of not having a week confirmed until 2 weeks out you might pull one off...this is what I see with a dog week for April 2007:

I know of a few people that have successfully done that but coming from NY I don't think I could roll the dice that much. That is just me though.

Actually, it shouldn't be the least bit surprising that FF wouldn't let you deposit POINTS with TPI.

The only official link between FF and TPI is through Outrigger, where owners DO have to request a deposit through FF.

Since you are not an Outrigger owner, they thought you were trying to do something that you were not allowed to do.

I think you are correct in your assumption that MUTUAL was confusing FF as much as they were confusing her !

                          Mutual,

I'm sure the TPI exchange will work out great. Given your timeframe, RCI may not be your best choice for a piggyback week, unless, as Lawren says, you'd be willing to do some nailbiting in the final 2 weeks.

I don't recall your FF details, but is there any reason you couldn't use TPI or another independent (HTSE, SFX) for the second week?

                            Glitter,
I just thought I'd see what the fuss was about with the searching and depositing with RCI. I read that you can actually do a 3-way calling with both FF and RCI to see if whatever you want they can match for you before actually giving up your points. At least, that was my understanding. I'm the kind of person who likes to try all her options before committing to anything. That's just me.

                              FF deposit to TPI

I just tried to deposit a 28K FF blue studio (booked about 3 months prior to the date of the week) with TPI, and FF refused to confirm the week with TPI, who in turn refused the week. The rationale from FF was that I have to own at the resort I deposit. (Doesn't need to be HI--just has to be the location of my deeded points. I didn't have enough FF points to book at my home resort.)

You actually have to book a reservation at a FF resort in order to do a trade with TPI. You cannot use the 28K blue studio or any of the generic deposits when exchanging with TPI. It must me a booked week and does not have to be a week at your home resort.
