  • WE DID IT! We bought Fairshare Plus Points and are reading all the literature!

Okay, so we did take the tour with Carlos at PAHIO @ Bali Hai and did convert our weeks to points for a total number that makes us VIP Platinum.

It cost us $18,100+ closing costs and conversion fees of $189 per week.

We bought 308,000 EOY to get into the system. Do you think we did okay?

    Cindy,

    Congratulations on your purchase. Enjoy!!!

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I don't know Cindy but others will tell you. If you are happy then congratulations to you.

I hope you will enjoy your vacations at the many choices you will have and you will be able to reserve before the rest, now you are a VIP platinum member.

Are you still going on another presentation at Waikiki beach or just an update? I am curious how you like staying there. Let us know.

If you're happy, I'm happy. I'm not VIP but I got 300,000 EY for $3650 at a resort I wanted. So I'm learning, too, I don't have the kind of money that you do.

If you think VIP Platinum is worth an non-recoverable $15,000 or more, you did great.

            Cindy,

Not sure how many points you actually received. But assuming that you ended up with 1,000,000 points. At $18,100 plus 2 conversions (I assume), your cost per point is .018 before you add the cost of the weeks you converted. To the amount you paid to FF add the original costs of your weeks you converted to the amount you paid FF and divide by the number of points you have, you will have your cost per point. If you are in the 2 to 3 cents per point, that is a resale price range. If you are 4 to 8 cents, that's a very good retail buy.

It sounds like you made as good a deal one can do for buying from the developer.

We are at 1,500,000 (about), with our PIC weeks. We are going to sell Shearwater to help pay for the conversion costs. So we will have 500,000 for our 3 bed Bali Hai, 308,000 for the two bed, 231,000 for our one bedroom, plus our new 154,000 (308,000 EOY) points. Add in our 154,000 X 2 for our PIC Foxrun weeks and we have quite a few points. The Fairshare annual costs are kind of high. They also charge $50 per PIC week

I don't really get the system at all. I read for a while, but we wanted to go watch the surfers and see some waterfalls and do some shopping, so we didn't really get enough into it.

We still can rescind, if we decide not to go through with this sale. I am waivering, I have to admit. Our kids are not going to get VIP benefits as guests. That is a big problem for us. The only thing they will get is a free guest certificate. They will benefit from lesser points amounts for 60 days or less, so that will help them.

If it were me (and its not), I'd rescind. You are waivering (sic), to use your own words, and you say you don't really get the system...so it sounds to me like you should get out, study some more, and then do what's right for you. I know that you've been interested in FF for awhile now...so why not make sure you get the best possible deal?

JMHO, of course. In the end, if you are happy, I'm happy for you.

Fern, your post is so honest. I hope Cindy will do what is right for her. She can always buy later and another deal will come along. This is what I have been reading here and on TUG over and over again. Something to think about if you are not 100% sure.

To be very honest, I am sorry we paid so much for our MOC as it was dumb. We will make the best of it but you can change your fate. Yes, fate that we wrote about earlier. Here is the link.

                  Don't you hate these decisions?

I agree with Fern. It's a lot of money to invest in something you're not completely sure about. Plus all the levies and fees. How long do you expect to enjoy it for.

If you are happy then I'm glad for you and hope you will enjoy your purchase to the max.

I don't know much about Fairfield, but I think Cindy's $18,000 price included not only the 308,000 EOY points and VIP benefits, but also a discounted conversion price on her fixed Fairfield weeks. Isn't the conversion price usually something like $3000 for the first week, and $1000 for each additional week? So, that means Cindy saved almost $5 on conversion costs. I still don't think I'd pay $10K just for VIP benefits, though.

Cindy, how long do you have in the recission period? Also, have you joined the Fairfield Yahoo group and asked there whether this was a good price or not?

If you do send in a recission, I wouldn't be surprised if Fairfield responded by making you a counteroffer at a lower price.

                        Hello,

Yes, if you don't purchase retail.

A straight conversion cost $2395 for the 1st week and $995 for each additional week at the same time. If you later decide to convert more of your week it will start again at $2395 for 1st week.

Cindy, I am surprise that they allow you to covert 3 of your Bali Hail weeks.

A small retail purchase and some coversion of fixed week plus 2 PIC is the best way to get VIP currently.

                        Vincent.

We have until May 4th, midnight, to rescind, but we won't wait that long, if we talk to Boca this next week in person on Oahu and he thinks we should. I am kidding. I won't let Boca decide what we will do, but I will listen to his advice, you can count on it.

Spence, we aren't rich at all, nor do we have money just lying around. I was going to use the cash from Shearwater's sale to pay for this, but I would rather use the cash for Shearwater's sale and buy some other resort and convert them, if that is what everyone here recommends. I would consider selling all of these Hawaii weeks.

                          My goals were simple:

                          1. Our Val Chatelle weeks dropped drastically in trade power. Because of this, I pretty much decided that I want to find another way into Shearwater, besides maintenance fees of over $1,100. I figured a 154,000 point generic Fairshare points deposit into RCI would do that for us. Is this a correct assumption, or am I dreaming? Still we would have to pay $164 to RCI, but that was okay.

                          2. I want to trade into Bonnet Creek a couple weeks a year and was going to go during low season, probably fall or after Christmas holidays, so I thought we could possibly reserve the one bedroom or two bedroom and maybe upgrade once within that 60-day VIP priority window. This would save us RCI trade fees,. too.

                          3. I was going to sell some of our other ownerships to get rid of those maintenance fees.

                          4. I was going to take advantage of the last minute RCI stuff with a small amount of points.

                          5. We were also liking the 1/2 points for 60 days or less. I wouldn't mind that discount and thought VIP Platinum would be worth it.

                          6. I don't necessarily care about 13 month priority, except I was pretty bitter that Fairshare Platinum get priority on Shearwater over OWNERS with deeds. I honesty don't know when this would benefit us at all. When are we ever going to need to get into someplace that far in advance? Most of our vacations are planned less than that.

If we can get this same thing for what Boca is saying on TUG, $9K, then we should rescind.

We have been getting the Fairfield Yahoo Group digest every day. I guess I should go to the Yahoo site and ask my question. Maybe Jya-Ning will see me there, if not here.

What do you mean? Weren't Shearwater sold out a long time ago? Are you saying that now Wyn is managing Pahio, the existing reservation procedures have been changed? Just curious...

I would not base anything relying on RCI to come through with the last minute discount inventory. It is too uncertain.
