  • Fairshare Plus, Platinum VIP. We are still considering this purchase for next year.

As you know, we rescinded a purchase we made at PAHIO that would have given us the VIP Platinum status, which seems like a great benefit. We just want to get our "ducks in a row" before we go back to the presentation next year.

    1) We want to buy two 3 bedroom units, probably at our home resort of Twin Rivers that is dual-affiliating with RCI next year. That will be more points for us at low MF's. The salesperson told us a lie (reason to rescind right there) when he said we could change our PIC weeks at any time. We had given them two weeks, one of which I never wanted to be used that way but was willing to deposit it once.

    2) We also want to sell Shearwater before buying, which would provide some of the capital necessary for the purchase. We don't need it to attain Platinum because we own a three bedroom, a two bedroom and a one bedroom EOY, plus the necessary 308,000 EOY that you must buy, for a total of just over a million points. 1,077,500 to be exact.

I have been watching the Fairfield Yahoo Group and see there are many changes coming with Fairshare Points and Wyndham; rumors abound that resale points may lose VIP status, even if combined with a new purchase? Also, guest certificates are not just $25 but are $49? I was dismayed to see that the unlimited number of guest certificates with VIP was gone as well. We were going to do this for our kids too. They have been raised on timeshare vacations and could benefit greatly from the membership. Can their names be added to the Fairshare Plus membership? Does anyone have 5 names on theirs?

I was going to ask these questions on the Yahoo group but one posting was ignored completely and in the other, someone comments that I had not signed my name, even though my email address is rickandcindy23, which is visible--that is who we are.

I've followed your story when you were considering purchasing directly from Fairfield. Right now Fairfield resales are at an all time low as far as prices are. Prime properties are going for 1 to 2 cents per point, with less prime properties going for less the 1 cent per point. A million point package in AC just sold for about $7100 plus closing costs of $525. As you mentioned you did purchase what you would be converting into their point system as well as the new purchases you would be PIC. It might be better to just purchase resale as right now everything that you have been reading about any proposed changes to the VIP system are mostly rumors and second hand knowledge. It would be best to wait and see what they actually are and then decide what works best for you. PLEASE keep in mind that they can change the VIP benefits at any time so what you may end up getting may and probably will be different from what you purchased, especially for your children or grandchildren. Unless you are looking to travel at peak time into most resort except Myrtle Beach there is good availability at 10 months out including in Hawaii and the new Resort at Disney. Good luck with your decision, just do what fits you best not just to say your a Platinum member.

Wha about converting your weeks w/o a developer purchase?

      Cindy,

I'm wondering if you converted your BHV weeks through FF's Corporate Direct Sales, could this get you to VIP Gold w/o a developer purchase and the two PIC week conversions. Conversions cost $2,395 for first week and $995 for additional weeks at the same time. This would be a much lower outlay if FF Corporate Direct Sales will guarantee VIP Gold in writing before you sign anything. If you don't like VIP, then you're only out $4,400.

I stumbled on your ealier rescission post after you had met with BocaBum99, but don't recall all the points details involved. If you want, PM me with the details of the potential RCI weeks that you have to consider as PICs.

Rumors abound about whether FF will discontinue the PIC program as a developer purchase incentive. In the time it would take to buy and close on two resale Red RCI PIC weeks (some resort salespeople say FF prefers Gold Crown resort sfor PIC), FF could take discontinue PIC altogether before you're ready for the developer purchase.

If you had two decent RCI weeks now with reasonable MFs, then at least you forgo two TS purchases on the resale market. If you only need 308K in PIC points to get to Platinum assuming a 154K EOY developer purchase and your BHV conversions, then consider your existing RCI weeks as an alternative (2 2Br Red RCI resort weeks wll get you there). If its a minimum 308K EOY purchase, I'd be a little hesitant until the dust settles on the changes coming out this year.

The FF annual owner's meeting is this week in Orlando, we will see if FF sheds any new light on the upcoming changes. Last year, they didn't mention anything about changes in VIP benefits at the annual meeting. The changes slipped out afterward and many VIPs were livid about the unit size upgrade changes they instituted.
