Also, as for the timeshare I mainly do international traveling. So most of my traveling for the next 2-5 years will be outside the US. So getting good RCI red week transfers appeal to me the most.

I currently have a 2 week stay in South Africa booked with the RCI under the timeshare I am canceling. We booked that vacation as soon as we got back from Hawaii. However, I will need to cancel that trip and hopefully be able to rebook it when I obtain a new timeshare.

So in light of the fact that 90% of my timeshare traveling will be outside the U.S. how would you rate the above timeshare. I am just trying to get a handle on why it may or may not be a good deal.

Of couse anything less than the 20k looks good to me at the moment

    Thank you for your time.

Anything less than 20k and with the quality of FF looks good to me also.

However, FF does not have too many presents international. So which means you will need to do exchange most of the time.

If your main purpose is to exchange, the MF now is around $5/k range. And I will guess if the MF is correct, that include the FSP membership fee, so if you later decide to add more (another 111k so over 300k), your avg cost will lower a little. So it is acceptable.

In exchange, you need flexibility. Sometimes, it means you will take the time slot when most people don't want be there. Don't know where you plan to go, but I believe there are a few people that bought SA property mainly for exchange, so I will guess SA has good avail even in acceptable time slot.

Otherwise, if you plan to use RCI, you are looking at some exchange that maybe a little better than avg. Since FF only give out generic or some random week they give out. The problem for that is, you almost are guarantee not get the max trading power week. But if you accept that, and believe you can travel to places at time slot most people can not go or don't plan to go, you should have no problem.

If you use other exchange company, you can pick your week to make deposit, then you have better control what you will put and better expecation on what you will get. Some exchange company actually does not have that problem in trading power, so if you find the exchange company that can provide you enough international exchange, you can work there.

For RCI exchange, you will deposit probably 28k, 70k, or 105k (I don't think 154k works 1/3 better than 105k), than means you probably get 2 week exchanges. So your current cost is about MF + exchange fee is about 1,100. and if you squeeze it, you may get 3 weeks woth about 1,300. Then adding the opportunity cost and potential sale loss when you done with it and try to get rid of it. If your current budget for lodging for 2 weeks is around 2,500 total, and you believe the exchange company provides you with the similar quality, it is a good deal from my point of view assume the closing cost is included. It is not great deal because you very likely will not use any of the FF resorts through their internal trading. And if you purchase some international resorts, you should get better trading power with similar MF or lower MF and better control of your exchange power. But if you can not go, you should be able to rent out the point and get even with your cost.

If you want to exchange repeatedly, you might want to forget FF. If you buy almost any week and deposit it a year or more in advance, you will probably get trading power far in excess of the best FF week.

FF works best for internal exchange with a 28K deposit. The visible weeks generally have poor to abyssmal trading power. The generic weeks have been losing trading power very rapidly.

The best exchanges seem to be with a "tiger trader" stalking horse to do an ongoing search and then using a search first to shoot the fish in the barrel.

My FF points still work better for me than my worst fixed week, but I have to call to use them.

That must be one really really bad fixed week.
