  • I just bought my first timeshare!

Ok so DH and I have been contemplating getting a timeshare for awhile now. My parents own a couple through Starwood and we have been with them a couple of times and really liked it.

Well tonight I won an ebay auction for a Wyndham Fairways at Palm Aire fixed Red Week 42. Its a Biennial even usage studio unit. We won the auction for $10.50 and there are no closing costs. We do have to pay the 2008 maintenance fees of $294. If anyone wants the exact auction info I can give the auction number(if it's allowed!).

Obviously a timeshare for $305 is a good deal? Right? DH and I were secretly hoping we wouldn't win because this is so new for us. Did we do a good thing? Are we going to regret this? Please comfort me or slap me for being an idiot!

Again, pocket change, but you are saddled with it now and hopefully can make the most of it. Fall/Oct on the Florida east coast is not leaf peeping, don't expect too much from it as a trader and you'll be happy.

I'm sure we can help you get good use of it.

If it is any comfort to you, I still own my first purchase <resale> that was a definate mistake. We have had many good exchanges over the years as well as some surprising side benefits from that oops!

eBay bidding is non binding. but the seller that listing it will have to pay eBay listing fee. If you don't feel comfortable, then you probably should not bid and should study it a while then make decision since there are a lot of TS worth to visit and own.

If you like that resort and like to be there at Oct., and don't plan to have kids, congratulation. Otherwise, with 10.95 and this year's vacation for $294, I don't think it is a big loss.

By the way, what is the closing cost? Free?

Oh, I know the ebay bid is binding. We plan on going thru with it. Even if we end up not using it it is at least a learning experience. I figure if we use it one time, it pays for itself since that is cheaper than a hotel for a week! I can always resell it myself on ebay!

And yes, there are no closing fees. The seller is paying them. All we have to pay is our bid and the 2008 maintenance fees.

...and I paid $7100 for my first resale, traded like a dog but RCI said it was RED. We'll help you get the best use out of it, you can count on that. Welcome aboard.

NO, the eBay bid is NOT binding. It is clearly spelled out on eBay. Despite what sellers say (threatening to charge you, give you bad ratings, etc), you are NOT required to complete the purchase. Just so you know.

I just read an ad today that threatened to give negative feedback stating "this is not an offer to negotiate, you are promising to buy." they even listed a $150 fee if buyer ends up not purchasing. Must have had some bad experiences.

I agree. It's inappropriate and it certainly doesn't make for a good first impression.

                          OK.

You Goumbette's should work on OP assuming they are female since they refer to a DH, whatever that is.
