  • Buying Fairfield Points Resale

I am currently doing my homework on buying a timeshare - so first I would like to thank all of you for the great information that is available here. This website has been a great help to me in figuring out what I want to buy and in learning about the resale market. I have been looking at several eBay listings for Fairfield Points in Myrtle Beach and I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone can help me with.

Has anyone bought FSP points through resale before - and if so, after the transaction was completed how hard was it to set up an account with Fairfield so that you could start using your points? Did you encounter any problems because you bought resale? Also, I noticed that if you buy direct that you get the VIP status - is there any feature of the VIP status that is worth having? I doubt that I will buy direct due to the price difference, but I just want to make sure that I'm not missing anything.

    Thanks!

Fairfield is not "fast" when recognizing changes in ownership. Several weeks' worth of delay is not unocmmon.

In my estimation, VIP is worth a small premium, but no where near what it would cost to acquire solely by straight developer purchases.

I bought 154,000 Fairfield points on an ebay sale last October. I've been a longtime Bluegreen owner but decided I wanted to have a small Fairfield or Wyndam ownership so that I could use the Alexandria location from time to time. When I bought there were the full amount of 2007 points that would be expiring 12/31/2007 and I suspected that the paper work would not get completed in time for me to use those points.

I bought on 10/8/2007 and the paper work was completed on 12/15/2007. I was promised in October that they would see to it that my 2007 points were deposited with RCI. I already had an RCI account but for some reason they had to set up a new Fairfield RCI account (it's a weeks account also as is my Bluegreen RCI account) I wish I could have a points account. In any event as soon as I paid my 2008 maintenance fees I was able to book my 2008 points and I'll be going to Alexandria in September which is what I wanted to do. When my 2007 points finally got deposited in RCI I was able to book an exchange week at another Fairfield resort which I did. Ill be going to the Edisto resort in September also. Although my RCI deposit could have gotten me to all sorts of places the Edisto resort was what I requested.

So from time of purchase until everything was straight was about 2 months, and it took another month to get my RCI membership straightened out. I think this was pretty good service.

The closing cost plus purchase price for my package was about $1100.00 which I think was a very good deal. However my maintenance fees are pretty high around $900.00 per year. I would appreciate knowing what others think of this deal???

The closing company should make sure they send out the transfer paper to FF after they record the deed on local government. Sometime FF is slow, sometime the local government is slow, sometime there may have some issues with prior owner. Usually, they are not intentionally try to block you to become new owner.

I believe if you have a lot of time and can really travel anytime, then VIP propbably worth if the resell price is 50% of retail price. As of now, VIP does not woth that much of trouble.

Your MF is in the higher side. But you have 154k only, when you get to 300k, you may reduce that to $850 if you really want to do that. But the deal is all depends on which resort is your home resort and if you plan to use the ARP benefit. There is no really right or wrong or good or great deal. If you can use the point, you can do a lot of with these points. If you can not, then even if it cost you nothing, and $450 MF, it is still a bad deal.
