  • Opportunity to purchase...

    Hi everyone,

I am a new member and I have searched around the site and found a lot of good info here. I have a couple questions and I hope you can help.

I have a chance to buy a Wyndham 105,000 points yearly at SeaWatch in South Carolina for $4,000 from a guy I work with. Is this a good deal and if not what are the specific questions with the plan, deed and resale to inquire about?

I am thinking this could be a good way to get into the TS system but with two kids (4 and 1) I am thinking Disney in the future, not South Carolina!

I am really interested in Bonnet Creek, but that is out of my league for purchase now, and I have read here that I can forget about transferring points in for a reservation. My parents are Gold VIP members with Wyndham Bonnet Creek and they are interested in purchasing the points as well.

Not to sound morbid but my parents deed will be willed to me at their death. Is it better for my parents to buy the points and transfer them to their Bonnet Creek?

If I do buy are there any hidden transfer fees or anything to worry about?

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any help/advice/comments that you have.

    Hello,

    Just a couple of thoughts....

Purchase price is above going rate for resale points. Wyndham point deeds on ebay sell for around a penny per point, the contract you are being offered would sell for somewhere around a thousand dollars, depending on how high the maintenance fees are.

As far as wanting to go to a specific resort, points can be used at any resort in the system within 10 months of the booking date. Buy anywhere (many people look for deeds with low maintenance fees), then travel to Bonnet Creek if you want. Another point on this particular contract: without the directory in front of me, I'm not sure that 105k will get you a full week at BC. However, once you are an owner you can rent points from other owners (including your parents) to make up any difference.

You asked about transfer fees. Wyndham charges (I think) $100 to transfer a deed.

If it were me, I'd find out the maintenance fees. Pass if it's over $5/1000 points, offer ebay going rate for MF between $4-5/1000, give a little extra if needed for MF under $4/1000. But again, that's just me, I'm not telling you what to do. Good luck!

Your friend is overcharging you for this purchase. I would only offer between $1050 and $1500 for this and you can also check prices at Timeshares: Save on timeshare resales - Up to 60% off retail / ebay / gmac timeshare resale. Also, if you have 2 kids you may want to start off with a higher amount of points (especially if you were going to pay $4K for 105K). I'd say start with at least 154,000 pts in order to really be able to fully utilize most of the wyndam resorts, and you can still get that for under $2K.

If your friend doesn't come down in price, and you want more information on viable places to purchase from email me.
