  • Exchange with RCI... any problems?

I'm looking at buying 154K points.

Looking at the points charts for Wyndham afflicated locations, I think this should meet my needs however does anyone know what that will get me with similar RCI locations?

    For example:

At week 40, Wyndham at Waikiki charges 154K for 6 days, Friday check-in through the following Weds.

Would an RCI be in the same ball park or do I lose value in the exchange? Any other problems with using this exchange?

    Thanks for your answers.

    Hi Chris,

154k is the contract size we own. We've successfully taken 2-3 weeks vacation with that amount of points each of the past couple of years, using RCI exchanges.

It sounds like you're just starting to research Wyndham. There's a great deal of information at the Wyndham Owners' Forums, including a downloadable "Primer" which is where you should start. The website is: Wyndham Resorts Forums • Index page

I'm not ducking your question, but there's a lot to learn, and the info has already been typed out by owners with much more experience than me. I'd highly advise reading up on the system first, and buying afterwards. And absolutely, buy resale!

    Good luck,
    Caius

Wow! 2-3 weeks vacation per year with RCI, is that correct? If so, that sounds like you're getting a great value for those points with RCI. My concern was that, when comparing Wyndham points to RCI points, you would lose value.

      Thanks for the link too.

No problem (by the way, I have no idea why the link posted that way, I just cut and paste it from my IE favorites).

I don't know anything about the RCI points program, but here's a *very* brief example of using RCI weeks through Wyndham. You deposit Wyndham points in exchange for a week in RCI, with the number of points required being equivalent to a room size and season. The deposit sizes range from 28k points for a blue season studio unit, to 254k for a red season 3BR - but the size/season of the trades you get are not strictly limited to the deposit you make. Many users of these forums routinely use small (including 28k) deposits to get week exchanges into overbuilt areas or last-minute exchanges. For 2008 I got a 2BR at Ka Eo' Kai in Kauai for 42k and a 1BR in Cabo San Lucas for 105k (and probably could have done better, but I already had deposited those points).

On the flip side, the trading power of Wyndham points deposits does have limitations and there are high-demand trades that Wyndham trades just simply won't get, no matter how many points you deposit. One which commonly gets posted is Manhattan Club.

Again, this explanation just scratches the surface. There's a lot of info written about exchanging. But, 154k is a very good size as a first contract, and depending on your needs and habits may even be sufficient long term.
