No longer able to rent/transfer points from other members/owners
(effective March 1, 2009) first noted on Dec. 15, 2008 and found
in "Year End Statement"
Can anyone explain what is happening with Fairfield Wyndham
Receive that note today. Can not explain. Sounds like they are trying to kill the point rental market since the best suggestion usually is rent points.
Don't know what is the reason behind it.
But it will make sure its reale value the same as RHC or worse.
I just rented some points from someone last week & they also told me that they were told by the vc that transfers will be stopped in March. Looks like it might be true!
How terrible.

It is with the assessment letter. In the 4th paragraph, it states
We would also like to take this opportunity to share with you a program change that your Board of Directors recently approved that will go into effect in conjunction with online availability of your 2009-2010 Member’s Directory. In response to feedback from many owners and so we are able to ensure your accounts are being securely and accurately maintained, the transferring of points feature will no longer be offered as of March 1, 2009.
Can something be done? If we each bought a few shares and proxied our votes to someone to attend the annual shareholders meeting, they would feel it. The stock is only $5.50 a share right now. A good buy really if you look at the dividend. We could turn this corp. into a co-op. Ace
I think it is aimed at the mega-renters but also they want to force the average folks that need or want some extra points to have to go thru them instead of renting them from another owner. Especially since Wyndham raised the price on their rentals.

I think it is aim at the people that bought TS for family use, and people that does not doing renting business that often but have a lot of points here or there.
The 2nd benefit is to make sure most of inventory can be get at 60 days or shorter.
For mega renter, if they can not get points from other owner, what they loss? For regular owner, when they bought too many points or when their life changes, and can not use it in one year or the other, what is the most benefit way to reduce the finacial burden and make sense?
If big renters can not get cheap point, they just rent less. They earn less, they will not try to collect mega-billion of points unless they rent it out. However, for people that can not vacation one year or the other, and owns TS, their other options is to either use it for PP or get Wyndham's MF, or rent the reservation themselves. Which will guarantee destroy the rental market, since everything looks great than Wyndham's $2.1 per 1K value
For people that owns less points but want to use TS for family vacation, stay less, use travel agent to arrange a moving tour. Which make it more flexible, less burden. Just arrange one or 2 days TS stop in between, so can change the cloth, have a family meal in the trp. At this economic, that probably be better.
They do get a chance to to have more inventory they can control within 60 days. But at this type of economic, I am not sure if that is good or bad thing, except perhaps they can now provide more $99 trip
Why do I always feel as if I purchasd at the wrong time lately???
My goal in buying points was to insure I would be able to visit a certain resort for 3 weeks - but didn't need to do this for several more years.
I just should have purchased more week ownerships at that resort - at this point, it would have been easier!
These ownerships are REALLY going to go down the toilet.
This is a real bummer. I was counting on renting out my points for the next several years until I either had more vacation time or more money to pay the maintenance fees. Now I feel stuck. It isn't worth while selling; people are virtually giving points away. I wonder what this will do to EBay points now. I was thinking of getting more points while the prices are so low to rent now, and use in later years; i'm glad i didn't do that.

Can you use Wyndham points for non timeshare products like airfare, car rental, etc? RCI Points recently changed their policy to severely limit the flexibility in using points for airfare, car rentals and theme park tickets.
Only if you have PlusPartners on your account. Developer purchases have this feature. You can also pay to enroll a resale purchase, last I checked. Unlike some RCI Points deeds, most uses of Wyn FSP points in this way are not cost effective.

Seems pretty clear that it's another shot at the mega-renters (who were the sink for the majority of points).
The other explanation is that they are so incompetent that they screw up accounts subject to transfers on a regular basis. This does not surprise me.
As has been said elsewhere, this is corporate doublespeak, many owners could be as many as five, and they certainly should be able to do accounting properly.

If the whole TS4Ms membership did this, they still wouldn't feel a thing.

It's aimed at everyone because everyone (as a group) is in competition with Wyndhams own rental operations and as a group is a threat to their competitiveness.
