My name is Alan. I believe they are doing this because it is business that they aren't getting a piece of. Now they will have a monopoly. Monopolies do not treat their customers well. Ace

I think that the primary reason for the cancellation of transferring points is so that the Wyndham sales team does not have to pay for VIP benefits such as discounted points and waived no housekeeping fees for non-VIP credits transferred to a VIP account.
I believe this as well. (I should, seeing as how I posted a long argument for why this is plausible OY.)

But they only have a monopoly if they own all the vacation lodging options available to you. It's not as if Wyndham and their owners are a closed system. If you cannot rent points from other Wyndham owners, you have many other options for vacation lodging beyond renting points from Wyndham. At Wyndham's price of $8/K, most of those other options are much less expensive.

I believe Wyndham resale prices will be going down drastically in the near future.
Down from where? They haven't been above $0.02/pt since before I started paying attention, and they've been around $0.01/pt for at least the past few years. It's not as if they had much in the way of value in the first place. I paid about $0.014/pt more than two years ago, and that's a deed with maintenance, taxes, and FSP fees at about $3.8/K.

If I have 105,000 pts and need to come out to an even 19000 per night, YES they have a monopoly. Or I waste 10000 pts. Alan

If this decision stands... I believe that you'll see the seller offering to pay the first year of maintenance fees on some of the contracts - at the least. I have never seen that on Wyndham resales in the past. And it is currently being done this way on some sales of some other timeshare systems... there is lower to go. Not a big concern (I guess), if you own one contract... but could be if you own several.

          Just my opinion...

10K is enough to be worth pooling. No reason to waste them, just roll them over. If instead you want an extra night or two, pool or borrow from the next year.

They will pay you $2.10/k towards your MFs for your points. Needless to say, anyone who knows about the points rental market on this and other forums would never do that.

To those saying "what can you do?" -- email the board of directors. I can confirm that the emails are being read, as Deanne left me a voicemail the day after I emailed to complain asking me to call her back, and another voicemail following the message I left for her (unsuccessul in reaching her so far). At least it shows the email was received....

These email addresses have been posted a few times at the Wyndham Owner Forums, and at least once at TUG. I don't know if they've been posted here or not:

Does anyone have the physical mail address for these four people? I'd rather write a real dead-tree letter.

You can buy 105000 Wyndham points for .99 on ebay right now. I think this is a pretty solid bottom to the market. It is an indication that management has made this an undesirable posession. To go below would mean that it is viewed as a trap. Something to escape from. Ace

With what MFs, though? The price per point doesn't mean much without the MF number as well. For example, if it's north of, say, $5.75 or so, it wouldn't have gotten much interest even a year ago, unless it has an ARP advantage somewhere that matters.

I assume you mean that Star Island week. That listing was wrong, because Florida resorts invoice for taxes separately. A 105K UDI at Star Island is about $580 in 2008, including MF+taxes+FSP, or $5.50 +/-. With closing costs of $500 putting a floor of 1/2 cent per point as a purchase price, that was lucky to sell at all.

4.20 including FSP? Not bad, but not as good as some. Mine is about $3.80, and you can do even better than that.

But, I want to know what idiot bought this:
Wyndham Ocean Ridge-SC Fairshare Points Timeshare 4Sale - eBay (item 380088722342 end time Dec-18-08 19:00:00 PST)

105K annual at Edisto, with MFs of $7/K, for a total cost of $1,000 including purchase price.

Pagosa Springs, CO and I believe it correct. It is higher than some because it is points only. Most of their HOAs on deeded properties are much less, and some have $300,000 in their acct.s. Does this count in your equation? The seaside resorts seem to always have high MFs.

                                Even on YouTube

This video has appeared on YouTube. Perhaps they have finally pushed owners too far and they really will rise up and hurt them. It's long overdue.
