Woman's timeshare swap turns out to be contract for sale

Story from a local Tennessee TV station about an "owner update" issue..

Someday, timeshare developers will understand.. It seems so simple to me....

Bad sales tactics create bad press!

Unfortunately, this isn't the first person who didn't understand and it won't be the last person.

While I agree that the sales tactics are hardcore and can be evasive and untruthful, at what point do we put some responsibility on the buyers if they don't even read the contract papers? Just wondering.

I agree.. Personal responsibility is becoming increasingly rare in our society.. It seems like there is always an attorney or reporter willing to wring their hands and point the finger elsewhere!

With that being said- you could see this one coming from MILES away! When this lady spoke with onsite employees about the cancellation request (a fragile elderly lady with a husband suffering from dementia)- mgmt should have clearly seen that this could easily turn into negative press... They could have provided simple instruction to her in writing (with a copy for their records).... And they should never have allowed the salesperson to visit her at her home!

If she still couldn't manage to follow directions and submit the cancellation request in writing, or be bothered to do something as horrific as READ (or have her friend read to her if vision is an issue)- the developer would have been in a much stronger position to defend their tactics in the story.

Just a little common sense keeps this from being any kind of a story, and probaby keeps it from getting any public exposure... Instead, it looks like another example of timeshare sharks in the water!

What a sad state of affairs. First, a timeshare salesman taking advantage of a woman on a tour with her husband who suffers dementia and second for the woman just signing papers without reading what she was signing and then not getting the cancelation in writing.
