  • How to get the most out of unused points ......

    Hello Everyone,
I would like to start getting some education on TS...
    First the facts:
    154.000 pts Virginia, Williamsburg, Kingsgate,
154.000 pts Florida, Orlando, Cypres Palms
    availeable for 2009. Dec 31.
    Two free? guest cert.
These are resale purchases via E-Bay,
As it turns out, I won't be able to use my TS. this year.
They came with RCI ms., which I'm not interested at all at this point.
I would be happy to explore any Wyndham Resort to beginn with.
But it has to wait till next year.
My question is...how to preserve my points, without loosing them
at the end of the year ?
I would like to be able to travel with them in 2010.....maybe to my home resorts or anywhere within the Wyndham system.
Next year I will get only an other 154.000 pts for Kingsgate.
    What is the best way...?
Could anyone , please advice me ?
    Appreciated.

    Rita,

I believe at this point you only have two main options. Make a few deposits to RCI and try to trade for your 2010 trips (which should be done yesterday). And trading well through RCI is another artform. OR try to book something and rent it to recoup your MF's. Possibly friends or family members would rent a week or so from you?

I suggest you join Wyndham Forums, a group of owners helping owners. Lots of info over there. Wyndham Resorts Forums • Index page Not that you won't get good info here as well.

Don't be discouraged. It does take effort to learn and use what you own
to your best advantage. We have all made mistakes when starting out.
It gets easier when you are armed with knowledge...

      Wyndham Points...

      Hi MargeS,
      Thank you for your reply.
Sorry for the long wait for respond, but few days after my post I travelled to Florida, Sarasota and came back to Toronto on the 7 th of Sept, just for school.
We started 2 weeks later than in USA....
Had 11 weeks with two kids....any way.
Preferebly I do not want to deal or pay RCI.....
when there are several resorts within Wyndham I would like to visit.
As you can see I have 308.000 for this year and in 2010 will have 154.000 points only. Asked around, but nobody was interested renting...
This Christmas we already have arrangements, also for March break...
So maybe next summer I can travel with timeshare.....wich is stupid, because we have a cottage, waterfront in Ontario and summer is beautiful
here...in Sarasota we have now 2 condos, both are vacant ...that is where we were. I think it was a mistake to buy the 2 timeshares, but thought on the long run might work.... presently do not have enough time to complete travels to get the most out of them.
Called Wyndham, they were not very helpful at all. I had the feeling -they want to get the maximum $ from you, but not care....
So my ? is: is there away to have my points with Wyndham from 2009 to carry over to 2010 without RCI.....?
      Thanks in advance, csavargo

Take them, use them or lose them

No. They would have had to be pooled prior to the start of the use year. It's RCI, use them in Wyndham or lose them now. You'd only be aying the exchange fee(s) as your memebership to RCI is prepaid. Isn't that cheaper than losing the time entirely? Plus you get 2 years to use them and may be able to squeeze out a number of weeks of use. Take a careful look at what the RCI option gives you. Good luck.

          Thank you,
OK, so I will deposit it RCI.
Do I put it in BULK.. or how do I break it down...?

How many vacations you can take in next 2 years besides regular Wyndham points you will get every year. Break them as this. So far, RCI season still a little bit imprtant than size, so you are looking at break them using 70k or 28k.

Thanks to reading quite a bit and advice from people like Jya-Ning in particular, I made three deposits to RCI earlier this year of unused 2009 points - two 70K and one 28K and have since been able to trade those for two 2BR and one 1BR units - one of those 2BR units back to my home resort of Bentley Brook for Christmas week 2010 (worth 164,500 points itself)!

I am very happy with the trades I was able to make! I think I more than doubled the value of the points over Wyndham alone by depositing them to RCI.

Have you checked out the Wyndham owners site I mentioned?
There are some ideas there on how to at least recoup your MF's,
then you could just concentrate on 2010 points (for summer 2010, you should be searching very soon). If you have the time available to use weeks, I would just make RCI deposits.

                  Thanks everybody,
Tes I took a quick peek on the website, but had limited time.....
Will do more reading tonight, since I'm feeling pressured with time....

When it comes to traveling with my two girls, age 6 & 9, we are not fussy....
Pool and sunshine is good enough....4-5 times we drive to Sarasota from Toronto, talking about 25-28 Hrs in car....
So if the resort is 10-12 Hrs drive from Toronto, that is nothing...

But I guess, once I deposit in RCI it does not matter anymore if it is Wyndham or not...
Someone said somewhere, to deposit one bedroom points in RCI than request a resort that has only 2 bedrooms....and that is an upgrade, right there...She owns Marriot....
Is it true ? Are there only 2 bdrm resorts and how many points would I have to deposite for that.?
If I make a reservation with Wyndam now in2009 for next year, 2010 and than cancell in December or January... what would happen ?
                  Have a great day evryone,

You cannot reserve anything in 2010 using 2009 points.
2009 points must be used by 12/31/09.
