On the other hand, the loft in Hawaii is really, truly a bedroom.
    But, it's a loft, not a bedroom, so it's not a bedroom, it's a loft.

I understand you are disappointed, but II's rules are pretty clear. You can't exchange one 1BR for two 1BRs, you can't place an ongoing search for a 2BR with a 1BR, and your HI unit just isn't a 2BR, as much as you'd like it to be treated that way. I would agree that the Yarmouth unit is mis-classified.

On the other hand, the loft in Hawaii is really, truly a bedroom. It really is private...when we go there, we stay in the loft and put our daughter in the "bedroom"...the loft is bigger than the bedroom. The loft has a king sized bed...the bedroom has a queen. You can't see into the loft, the loft walls are about two feet from the cathedral ceiling...they should have just closed it in.

I recently went to the Cove at Yarmouth on Cape Cod and the bedroom was not closed in...it was same situation, but Interval calls that a one bedroom. Using the same criteria as they are using for my Pono Kai unit, they should call the Cove at Yarmouth one bedrooms, "studios with a loft". My Pono Kai unit is set up almost identically to the one we had at the Cove except that the Pono Kai has another bedroom on the first floor.

I think that I will reserve my PK unit again between Xmas and New Years and just try to rent it. Oh well.

Technically speaking a bedroom needs to have a door for privacy, a window, closet, and of course a bed.

Does your PK have these elements? If so then you have a legit issue. What about your Cove at Yarmouth?

I don't own at the Cove...I traded in. My point is that it's a loft too and II calls it a bedroom.

I understand. I am agreeing with you that it is incorrectly classified a 1BR.

From a technical standpoint then, if Pono Kai, and Yarmouth Cove have similar configuration elements then you have a point. Perhaps even a legal issue.

I sounds like Yarmouth Cove got over on II.

HA....I have bigger fish to fry. I don't need to go to Alabama that badly. Since my Mom passed away over the summer, I'm trying to keep my Dad in mind and try and get a place where he can be comfortable so that he can go with us. Normally, a one bedroom would not even be an issue. Nonetheless, there are other places to go and other exchange companies to use.

I can't answer for all independents but SFX does NOT charge an upgrade fee for Platinum members. I have upgraded from a studio and 1BR units to a 2 BR unit more than once with SFX with no additional fees.

In which case, part of the cost of the Platinum Membership could be viewed as the upgrade fee. It's a very modest cost if you are using them often, but still a cost.

You have to pay a membership fee with II or RCI.

But you don't with SFX, so that seems to be the reasonable comparison point.

There are other differences between Gold and Platinum as well, but you do pay *something* in SFX to upgrade, whether the upgrade fee or the Platinum difference.

Correct - but the point remains that upgrades are not free through SFX. You can only get them if you've paid extra.

You can pay for them upfront by becoming a Platinum member, or you can pay for them as you go.

                            Basically enclosed bedroom now

The suites have always had a dedicated bedroom at the Cove. The most recent renovation work in the townhouses (loft units) changed the layout so now the loft is enclosed with a working window to open up to the main floor below. All but about 30 units have had the conversion done. There is no door but the solid walls & stairs, along with the closet & full bath, make the "loft" a full bedroom for all intents.

Compared to RCI or II, they are free because you have to pay a membership fee to RCI and II. The Platinum membership at SFX includes a lot of benefits not available with a free Gold Membership.

It's not exactly "free." The fee for Platinum membership at SFX ($259 when I last inquired, though it's been a while and I can't find it on their website) is a good deal higher than regular membership for II or RCI. There are additional benefits for Platinum members, some of which are available to all RCI and II members (such as the ability to request further out than 1 year), some which are not, and others that are of little significance to some members. If I were to upgrade in size at SFX more than once a year, or use at least two sell-off weeks at $100 off for Platinum members, it would be worth the Platinum membership, but that doesn't fit my recent user history. I used to be a Platinum member, but let it go when the fees went up.
