  • My cousin has never used his Interval property - but I might! Help!!

My cousin bought in Maui at the Beach Club in Kihei through II in about 1997. He has never used it, and I don't even know how much he pays per year. Anyway, I'd like to pay his maintenance fees next year and use it -- it's a 1 BR. How difficult would it be to trade this for a 2 BR at a more modern looking place in Maui, (i.e. how much more money would it likely take?)?

    Thanks for offering some guidance.

Your cousin did not buy through II as II is simply an exchange company. If your cousin is a member of II he can deposit his week with them and then try to get another resort. The chances of you finding a suitable match depend on your trade power, your flexibility and availability. II charges a yearly fee (around $89), exchange fee (around $149), and guest certificate fee (around $49).

Generally exchanging back into the same area of the deposit is not allowed.

        Exchanged Into Same Area

I own at Hanalei Bay Resort in Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii and was able to trade into another part of the island (Marriott Kauai Lagoons in Lihue). So, exchanging into the same area is valid, if that is still considered a "same area".

You might want to use hawaii timeshare exchange. It costs $89 to join (or thereabouts) and then $100 to upgrade from a 1- to a 2-bedroom unit. The actual exchange costs around $100. They are at htse.net.

              Request and Retrade

You can always submit your trade request, and if they don't approve that type of trade, they'll just deny the request. You'd get your original week back again to trade again. At least that's how II works. So it's worth trying.
