  • Is II lying to me?

I have been a member with II for nearly 5 years now and have really grown tired of the diminishing return with my deposits and their lack of customer service.

Back in August I deposited my 2010 week for an exchange in July of 2011. They gladly placed the request and charged my credit card. In late December they called me and told me the exchange can not happen because I hadn't renewed for 2011 yet. I was told that the entire time from August to this point in late December I would never have been confirmed and that if I do not renew with them I will never get my exchange and my 2010 week will be lost.

Is this right? How can they take my 2010 week and not give me a week in exchange? I have no intention of renewing with them for 2011. In fact I planned on joining SFX within the next week or so.

Any information would be appreciated... Happy New Year!

Your membership has to run past the date of your requested arrival date. For example, if you membership expires in June 2011 and you request an exchange for November of 2011, then you'll need to renew your membership so that it runs past Nov. 2011. We've been members since 1998 and it's been that way as long as I can recall.

While it would have been appropriate for the rep (assuming you called and didn't deposit online) to have told you that you would need to renew for the dates you requested, it is up to the individual to know the rules. Knowing the rules is especially true if you plan on making a deposit and then attempting to make an exchange request at a later date.

Interval hasn't taken your deposit without giving you an exchange. You'll need to decide to either make an exchange before the expiration of your membership or, you'll need to renew you membership one more time.

Why would u think you could get a request past the time your membership expired?

If you gave then a deposit in summer 2010 - it would be good until at least summer 2012 or even 2013 assuming you deposited more then 60 days out.
Unless u planned on using it before 1/1/11 you would need to renew your membership.

On the other hand, even though you were ignorant of the rules of the company/membership, requesting an exchange past your membership period should have triggered a response in their system.
When I look/search online and put in a date past the expiration of the deposit, I get a message telling me that.

Did u also have some dates this fall that could have matched?

It is a mystery why u were able to place the request AFTER your membership expiration date.

No, I did the exchange on the phone as I had very tight specific dates that the online system couldn't allow me to request. The request dates were in July 2011. The II rep never said anything to me... Just gave me the confirmation request. I checked online the same day and the request was showing. I checked just a couple of minutes ago and it is still showing...

The funny thing is I put in an exchange request on October of 2007 for a May 2008 stay in Aruba. It was confirmed the next day and my membership was to expire in December of 2007...

        IDK...

I don't know what to tell you other than service in every sector of society isn't what it use to be. I won't even consider shopping at Sears due to service issues we had a few years back.

All I can tell you is that I.I. isn't lying to you. The rules prohibit you from confirming an exchange that occurs past your membership expiration date. I agree they should have told you when you made the request. If they allowed you to do it in the past, then you slipped one over on them.

Owners are the bottom of the II priority list

We looked at what we paid for individual II membership and what we got out of it over a 5 year period. It was clear we were not getting value so we dropped the membership in 2004. We haven't missed it at all (but to be fair in full disclosure we do still have II access through DRI Club. Because that is a corporate membership we get easy trades, based on points rather than weeks, with that account & find it MUCH better than the II account we had to pay for! But that does not allow us to put our other resorts into II - we can only use DRI points.)

It has worked out well and we would never go back to a paid, individual II account again as it simply isn't worth the $$ for such poor choices and service level. The Corporate advantage with II is so great that it raises an otherwise worthless (to us) exchange system to one that we at least consider using. We still prefer RCI SFX as our major exchange systems - with the new VRI*iety now thrown in as well - but II through DRI is an option w do use occasionally. Bottom line - drop your individual, paid account. Being a second class to all the corporate accounts and developers isn't worth paying II for.
