  • Does this make any sense to anybody here?

My 2008 undeposited Foxrun week 16 matched with a two bedroom Eagles' Nest unit in Marco Island for early December of this year. I telephoned
in to have the exchange switched to use my deposited 2007 week,
which was deposited almost exactly a year to the day from usage.
    Should be a no-brainer, right?

After a long hold, the VC came back on to tell me that my 2007 week
did not have enough "points" to get the exchange I wanted and I would have to use my 2008 week.

When I questioned her how that could be, seeing they were the same week,
etc., she said that Interval doesn't determine the number of "points",
that that is done by the resort. Now, I definitely know that's a
load of dung although she said it with such conviction I honestly
    think she might believe it.

I want to use my 2007 week for obvious reasons - it expires first
and if I deposit my 2008 week now, I won't get an AC next year. As well, even though it's a nice resort, the second week of December in Florida is hardly prime time and I'm rather shocked that my '07 week won't work - I'm hoping to keep my '08 week for an exchange to Hawaii in spring of '08.

Does this make any sense to anyone? Could it be that the fact that
my 2008 week is being deposited almost two years out should factor
in that heavily? I basically have this exchange pending
confirmation - I'm thinking of calling back on Monday morning when
hopefully more experienced staff are in and speaking to a
supervisor at II. Or should I telephone the resort first to verify that they do not set exchange "points" or values, then confront II with that information?

Any thoughts about the best course of action?

    Thanks in advance

I would try calling again and talking to another person. The "points" thing has me scratching my head.

      More frustration

Just went in to check around to see what else I could find with my deposited week to find that the pending confirmation they were holding for me per my earlier conversation is gone!! I now have an ongoing search again and of course, Interval has closed up shop for the night.

Should be interesting in the morning.

If its anything like RCI....then just keep dialing until you get the answer you want to hear.

In my experience I have found that II's help is less informed than those at RCI and believing just what one guide said could result in losing something unnecessarily. Case in point, I made a late deposit once and the guide said it would be a flexchange at 60 days out- I cancelled the deposit and called back immediately getting another guide and making the same deposit as a regular deposit. Had I not known that flexchange deposits began at 59 days out and not 60, I would have lost a great deal of exchange flexibility.

            Success!!

Thanks, all, for the encouragement. I phoned my resort, just so I could say I did. They, of course, had no idea what Interval was talking about. Phoned back and got another VC who, after a long hold, said that weeks were very, very close, but the fact that I had deposited my 2007 week just shy of a week after the one-year-out date, in other words, at about 51 weeks ahead of check in instead of a full year, gave it about 200 "points" less value. When I queried her on it, she confirmed that Interval basically gives points for this, that and the other thing to come up with an exchange value.

However, she said that 200 points was very nominal and that they were going to switch weeks for me, so it's all good.

But basically some interesting emperical data about the importance of depositing at least a year out. She didn't seem to indicate that I would get extra "points" by depositing my 2008 week this far ahead and I didn't think to ask her while she was on the phone.

Which seems to show that even II is in fact using a points system even if it is behind the scenes. Now if only II & RCI would admit that there is a point value to every week we could know the values and not have to play blind mans bluff with trade values anymore.
