I have an II week that is set to expire Aug 30th 2011. We were going to take the kids somewhere this summer with it but now I am pregnant and my Dr has advised against travel. I was told once at a timeshare presentation that I could extend the week by booking a date before the expiration date and then canceling it within 60 days of the trip then the week would be extended by one year? Is this true? I am very new to II but am losing lots of weeks because I just don't understand how it works and I haven't been able to get many exchanges.

If you cancel it with in 60 daysYOu will not get a refund on any of the exchange fee and you may lose some trading power; You might be able to extend it for 3,6 or 12 months by paying a fee which would be less than losing an exchange feeTimeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

The price of extending your week is $69 for 3 months, $99 for 6 months, and $189 for one year.
I think paying for an extension is a better option then booking/canceling your week. I would guess that your trading power would be less effected with the payed extension, opposed to the cancelation. Good luck!Angela
If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Cancel it BEFORE the 61st day - so June 20ish 2011.
You will get a cancellation replacement week that is good thru June 20, 2012 without any restrictions....you could do an exchange the next day for May 2012 or March 2012 or November 2011.

If you cancel your week, you can only exchange 59 days out, online, no requests allowed.
If you extend your week, and renew your membership at the same time, you can negotiate with II, and get your week extended for free, with no restrictions..........I did this recently. I got a year extension on a week that was about to expire with no restrictions.
PS....If you just extend your week with II, and do not negotiate, they will restrict your week to to the same 59 day exchange, no request allowed, online exchange only as when you cancel a week.Angela

Does it matter how SOON I cancel it. So if I book it today could I cancel in a week? Or should I wait longer?

Hi, I'm new to the forums and I have a question on this topic.
I talked to an II rep and he said I could book a week and cancel 61 days out, but that I would lose my booking fee ($149--or whatever it is these days). I'd get the unrestricted year extension, but would have to pay the booking fee again when I booked it next year. Is this your experience? We also discussed that <60 days you get a restricted exchange.

I just called to cancel my week to get the extension. I had the same experience. I lost my booking fee and will have to pay it again when I rebook. So I really didn't save any money buy doing it this way. I could have just paid for a year extension from my August expire date. Instead I canceled in June so only have until next June to use it but still have to pay the fee.
