  • Guest Certificate

My Mom traded her Marriott Canyon Villas timeshare through Interval for another Marriott timeshare - St. Kitts. Now she is not sure she will be going along, if she does it will be later in the week. Interval says we have to buy a guest certificate for an extra $49 if I am checking in instead of her. We do both have the same last name.

Contacted the Marriott Timeshare in St. Kitts and they said it wouldn't be an issue as long as she e-mailed ahead of time that I am able to check in on behalf of her. I would much rather save the $49 - since we have already paid Interval an exchange fee - but is that too much of a risk?

Anybody have any experience with this? Will an e-mail by the person on the certificate usually suffice - particularly with the same last name? Thanks!

My experience has been very consistent: the exchange company, either RCI or II, insist that I purchase a guest certificate. The resort ALWAYS allows friends or family to check in first if I fax them a note with my signature, and often my phonecall does the trick.

I have had the same experience.
That said, if I were sending a relative out of the USA I would not want them to have a problem. So for international travel, I paid the $49 to put my parents name on the resie.
