  • Very frustrated with trying to join II

My first time share purchase, about a year ago, was a fixed week at an II affiliated resort. We purchased it to use and so did not want to join II immediately. Upon paying MF for 2012, we decided to look into exchanging. I tried II, but had nothing but problems. It wouldn't let me in online so I had to call. The representative ad problems and eventually said I needed a department that was currently closed so I needed to call back. Frustrated, I did some looking and decided to join SFX.

I am now in the process of purchasing a second TS ownership. I decided to give II another try. Again, more problems. Eventually I was told I needed a differrent department (different from the one I was told I needed months before) that, of course, was closed at the time I called. Apparently they couldn't complete my registration without some kind of code that comes on solicitations.

Why make it so difficult to join? I own a qualified resort. That is verifiable. Now I'm looking at other exchange companies, again.

Very strange. I've joined and then after letting my membership lapse for several years, rejoined and never had a problem. The general rule with both II and RCI was that if you didn't like things were going with the person you called, hang up and try again until you get someone that knows what's going on.

Which departments have you tried and what phone numbers have you called?
I am happy to try and provide help and advice on II and can offer personal assistance by PM if needed.

I didn't have any problems joining

Although I have had a few problems with II (primarily with their website) I didn't have any problem with joining or with later adding a second timeshare.

I looked up their number of the internet, called them and explained that I am a brand new owner and that I wanted to join. IIRC, I gave them a credit card number and my owner number and info. They said that it would take a few days for them to confirm my ownership with the TS people. And all of that was really pretty painless. In a few weeks I got a welcome letter and then a month later their directory.

When I went to add my 2nd timeshare a couple of years later, I did the same thing. They explained that they needed a fee to add the 2nd timeshare but that it would be waived if I extended my membership by a year. Good deal. Then they said that in a couple of days after they confirmed my new ownership that the new TS would show up under "my units".

        It was really pretty painless.

I think that one of the unsung benefits of being with II is that they periodically have some good Getaway deals. If you aren't the sort of person who has flexibility, doesn't mind checking things frequently, is willing to travel on a shoulder season, then you probably won't like Getaways. For me though they are a good benefit. I occasionally trade my units but bought the TS to actually use. I typically buy 2 or 3 Getaways a year. So the Getaways are nice.

I joined on May 1. Problems...could not join online. Had to call to give the rep all the info. Next day unit shows online. II had entered my phone number wrong so I was unable to create a log in. Had to call II to fix this. Now unit states wrong check in dates-had three II reps tell me there is nothing they can do about it. II also has the unit number incorrect. So three problems upon registering and none of the II people that I called yesterday-five times were able to fix the issues.

          What a mess....
