Flexchange - rules? variations? availability?

It's been so long since we've owned an II resort that I cannot recall this and it may have changed since back then anyhow. Please tell me...

When does the flexchange time period begin? Is it 60 days before check-ins?

Is everything equally available to all II members during the flexchange period? Or does your deposit's quality, week, resort, brand, season, etc. still matter? To what degree? What matters most? When does everything work for whatever's in the bank?

Technically it is 59 days. Pretty much everything is available. Size does not matter. However, II usually blocks from view resorts that would be a quality downgrade from your unit. There may be certain resorts that are not available due so an agreement with II, but not many, if any.

59 days, yes...and I think as somerville states the matches can vary a bit...either a block or some issue with quality, from what I have noticed. I don't know if an AC matches differently from a regular deposit though in flexchange timeframe.

So when one is interested in doing flexchange exchanges, which will provide for more variety of better weeks? A green 5 Star week or a red standard resort week? Do they hold back the best stuff longer than the 59 day mark, if you are using a lesser week to look?

Some resorts, such as Marriott, may still be under their "preference" period, even during flexchange. That means that for the first 21-24 days after a resort has been deposited, you may not be able to see it.

Also, not all resorts have the same trading power, even during flexchange. I constantly see different things, with different resorts, during that period.

I'm not sure which of your resorts would do better, However, in all likelihood, the better the resort, and the more sort after the date of your week, the better you will do.

Angela is correct about the Marriott priority, it still applies during flexchange. An exception may occur if checkin is within a few days, depending on the resort.

I believe the Starwood priority may also still apply during that period, not sure about any others.

fwiw, I cannot see any Four Seasons weeks until either 14 or 30 days out, can't recall, b/c my 5* Marriott Harbor Club platinum week wasn't considered Top Shelf enough quality-wise by II to see it sooner.

So if I were looking to trade in Flexchange only, I would probably just take a white/green standard resort (aka CHEAP) and see what I could do with it...

Of course, since it's me and I have a t/s problem, I'd probably also end up with a top Marriott, off-season, so I could see the quality stuff too

The Marriott hold during the flex-change period is much less then 21 days - in some instances it is just 3 days.

I would say the standard resort would pull more. Not because of season, but because the 5 Star resort will probably experience some quality blocks.

could someone explain flexchange to me?

I'm a novice at timesharing and some of my questions seem fairly obvious, but is flexchange 59 days(or so) and less from the start of the stay. Do you have to use a deposited unit for this? I have owned a t/s for almost 2 yrs. now and have never quite understood this. Sorry to butt in on this thread, but seemed a good place to ask.

Yes to the first sentence. Yes or a bonus week will do for the second sentence. The restriction to using flexchange comes with depositing 59 days or less before the occupation date or with some bonus weeks.
