  • Help! Newbie needs pre-purchase answers

I'm not really experienced with II and I'm not sure how they value trades. I realize there are probably a lot of "it depends" in the answers to this question but if somebody could give me some real world advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I'm considering purchasing a 5 star 2 BR Lockoff in Branson, MO with floating weeks during Platinum time (weeks 14-43). This is intended strictly as a trader, as I don't think I'd ever actually be vacationing there. Can anyone give me some guidance as to the relative trading power of this timeshare? I'm hoping to try for a DVC trade every once in a while as well.

You didn't say whether this would be a purchase from a developer or resale. It better be resale, other run-don't-walk away from the developer as you will be paying a huge amount over resale.

As for Branson, it is an area with a lot of supply. I wouldn't buy it for mostly trading, you can probably trade into it fairly easily when you want to go.

Which resort is it? That might help with the answers.

Advice: Don't do it. What Glitter said, it will be of little value as a trader.

It is the Sunterra Resorts The Plantation at Fall Creek. These seem to be availabe in the resale market at a very low price. Since it was a "5 star" in prime weeks, I was hoping to scoop one up if I could trade it. I have no need to vaction there however. I guess if it won't get me good trades, it is not worth it, event at bargin basement prices.

I think you came the the correct conclusion. Naming Sunterra certainly did not make the view any more positive.

I don't have personal experience with Plantation at Fall Creek although I own there, my property is in the Club. Their affiliations may well be like Powhatan's affiliations.

Could you explain to me as an Owner, the difference between RCI and II as it relates to Powhatan?
              • Although Powhatan Plantation does not have what is considered a DUAL membership with both RCI and II, we do have access to both exchange companies. As an owner at Powhatan the exchange company that you have access to use is based upon the type of ownership that you have. If you are a fixed owner at Powhatan Plantation you are using the exchange company RCI to make all your exchanges and will continue to do so. However, if you are a member of Club Sunterra currently or become a member in the future, you are now making your exchanges through II as your exchange company.

Thanks everyone for the info. I think I'll pass on this "deal". Like they say, "if it looks too good to be true......."
