  • AC in Orlando - Need help selecting resort

We have an AC we will be letting our friends use when they go to Orlando in late April. This is their first time down and they have an 8 year old and a 5 year old. Following is a list of resorts that are available with the AC. We always stay at The Fountains when we go to Orlando, so the only one I'm somewhat familiar with is the Sheraton Vistana Villages as it is right across International Drive.

Can anyone a) Point out a resort that is top notch out, or b) Note which ones to steer clear of?

    Thanks in Advance,
    Rob

I have stayed in a 2 bedroom unit at Calypso Cay. They have a nice pool and the rooms are very nice. The area is perfect for getting to the parks.

I got a getaway for my wife at the above and she loved it and wished she had the family with her. My brother and his family also stayed here and loved it. It is highly recommended by many people. It is probably where we would go. JMHO.

With children that age, I'd go with Horizons by Marriott. It's got 2 themed zero entry pools with slides, mini water park, and miniature golf course. It's reminds us of the Disney resorts with the great theming at the pools. Here's some pictures of my trip last April at Horizons:

I'd go with either Marriott's Grand Vista, or Horizons.....Personal preference is GV.

I was at Horizons by Marriott at Orlando • MHZ, with my daughter and her family, boys ages 3 & 5 and they loved the Pirate them pool. It is close to
Sea World and an easy drive to WDW.

You can't go wrong with either:

Marriott Grande Vista, Horizon's or Sheraton Vistana Villages.

My kids like the Horizons best because of the pirates pool. The units at Grande Vista are nicer.

Personally, I would take the Vistana Villages. They have a great pool, too. And, the units are great.

All 3 are relatively close to each other near international drive.

Isn't it amazing what an II AC can get?

Exactly what I was going to say. Amazing list.

I see one of Westgate's ugly ducklings, Club Orlando, made the list. If you enjoy real-life adventure, stuff like real gunshots, that is the place to stay. If you wander too far off-course, Orlando is a tough place.

I wasn't expecting much from the AC either so that's why I asked the question. I wasn't sure if there was something wrong with the Mariotts when they were listed along side of some of the others....

Nothing wrong with the Marriotts. Just evidence of how overbuilt Orlando is. We stayed at Grande Vista on an AC over Thanksgiving a few years ago, it was great. Still with young kids I might choose Horizons just to check it out.
