  • Club Sunterra II Tradability

I recently joined Club Sunterra and I've been wondering how well Sun Options trade with II.

I also own at HGVC and those points trade extremely well with RCI

    Thanks

    Scott

In my opinion Sunterra Club trade very well with II.
I own a Marriott week, plus Club Sunterra.
    Both trade well with II.

Points are Points, almost. The chart on Pg10 of the SunOptions directory tells how many points you must use based on three variables: Size(S,1,2,3), Season (Low, Mid, High), and quality (Select, Moderate, Premium). Nowhere can you see a listing of what resorts fall in what Quality category, you just know by the points that are charged of the points you can see listed when you search for exchanges online.

Sunterra warns members that 'Select' may not be what you're used to (meaning poor) and... the final kicker is... there are some resorts that must be 'Super Select' because I've never seen a Four Seasons even though I knew it was available from sightings.

        Interesting information Spence, thanks!

By "Super Select resorts," did you mean "Super Premium resorts"? It seems II is very picky about who can see the Four Seasons. I can see DVC, Marriott, Westin, etc., but not Four Seasons. There seem to be just a few resorts that can trade into the Four Seasons, so maybe Sunterra doesn't have anything that can do this.

Also, the booklet that you linked to says that the SunOptions points cost for a trade is reduced by half during the Flexchange period (59 days out.) Does that mean that Sunterra charges more for, say, a two-bedroom II trade than for a studio II trade even during flexchange? I'm surprised that you can't just deposit a studio during flexchange and pull (almost) everything, since that is how II works for other deposits.

Also, if Sunterra charges less points for an II trade than it does to directly book a Sunterra resort, is there any way for a Club Sunterra member to use II to trade back into a Club Sunterra resort, but at less points? I'd assume that Sunterra wouldn't alow this, but you never know.

Yes, that's what I meant. Four Seasons is the only thing I can remember being 'sighted' that I couldn't see with CSpoints. I asked someone at CS about it and they just said that that was the way the contract was written, they didn't know why and their job code had the word 'II' in the title.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but the way the contract works you pay half points for whatever the original value was prior to entering flexchange. No, you don't just get to say assign me a Studio value and let me trade for anything in flexchange.

This is a viable alternative, say, if you find a Sunterra week in II that's in PEAK season in Club Sunterra, it'll be less points in II. You won't find Sunterra putting any/many of that kind of week into II. If it happens, you pay the points from the chart and an exchange fee, there's no prohibition or shame in doing it. But then you're under II's rules for guest certs, rentals, etc.

There is a FSA 1BR on II using ClubSun Points right now ... 5:49 Pacific Time.
It's the first I've seen in a very long time. It's for Nov 23 and I guess they figure they'd put it up for grabs.

I got a February date a week or so ago!

FSA is restrictive. I was told the problem with Worldmark and sunterra is that many of their resorts are not up to FSA standards, and when we trade with straight points, those lesser resorts in our systems block FSA. I know when I space bank Worldmark points, and get an actual week, that about 20% of the deposits will see FSA, If the week they give me is from a resort that is supposedly up to FSA standards. It is good that you got a February week Spence, that means Sunterra must be doing something right, or playing hardball.

My opinion is that they trade relatively well but I would not classifiy them as exceptional. We recently converted our Polo Towers units into Club Sunterra. I have a 2 bedroom Villa's unit on deposit. Online Sunoptions does not pull anything that the Villa's 2 bedroom unit can see. However, what you see online is what's left over after other ongoing requests have been filled.

Sunoptions are tremendously more flexible though and you will get more value out of them IMO. Especially if you want to take advantage of the Flexchange period were points required for a reservation are 50% of the norm.

Overall I'm happier with the Sunoptions points vs just trading the week through I.I.
