  • Disappointed with II

I am relatively new to II and have been quite pleased up to this point. However I am very unhappy with their policy of charging to add resorts to an account. I have 3 properties that I had hoped to add and was told there was a $39 fee for each addition. I said that I understood that would be waived if I extended my membership, however I had already prepaid for 3 years. Since this means that II already has my money guaranteed for that time period, it would seem logical that I would be granted the exception. Nope. The properties involved all trade with RCI,TPI, HTSE and SFX, so I guess they will be going elsewhere. Seems a pity, but on principle I resent having to pay to deposit.

Know what you mean! I'm paid up till 2011 now just so I could add my resorts. Now I find there are certain ones I'm much better off exchanging through the independents. But since they are listed on my II account I do have the option of request first and playing with my searches. At least there is that

SFX & TPI have no joining fee. And HTSE is nominal. I let my RCI expire.

It truely is an annoying fee....but on the other hand, II lets you search without depositing and with my float weeks I can 'play' with the dates to see what gets the best results - unlike RCI which requires a deposit.

I prefer the former and just added 3 resorts for the $79 extention.

They tried that on me a couple of years ago on a dual affiliated resort, so I said "then I'll trade it with RCI". Didn't take long for the "wait a minute, maybe I can make an exception..." answer.

Actually Tony, I did try that. No reaction from the VG when I tried that line. So then I called membership services and got the same response from them!

Sometimes you get lucky-sometimes you don't. I could never get the 2X1 membership deals.

If you add them when you renew your membership there is no fee...unless that's changed. I added my Brewster Green for zero. It would have cost me 39.00 normally.

I just added a couple by extending my membership. It's annoying on the one hand, BUT you don't have to deposit your week, so it's like paying a "playing with the inventory" fee. I'd rather do that than what RCI does... no charge, but insists on a deposit first, then you're shooting blind...

The OP stated he's paid up through 2010 and really doesn't want to go any further. I've never tried to add multiple resorts at one time but, if he were required to add a year for each resort, then he'd be paid up through 2013. Since exchange companies seem to have a habit of changing their rules from time to time, being paid to far in advance could become an issue if things changed for the worse and they were no longer a viable option for exchange purposes.

Still, the $39 to add a resort to an account seems like chicken feed when we're paying around $400 in closing costs, which sometimes is more than the week purchased cost itself.

There may be other II members who are unaware of this fact like I was before someone told me. No one else mentioned this saving factor. Jeez!

If that becomes the case, you can always cancel your membership. You would get a prorated refund for unused portion.

I just figure I've locked in my membership fee at today's rate. Chances are that it will increase sometime in the next few years.

We went through the same thing with them, now I think I've prepaid five years or something seems like extortion to me since they know they already had their money in the first place.... Doesn't seem to be a way to get around this rule from my experiences.

Well this is a good warning. I will only pay membership for a minimal time period. Not sure I want to have more than one resort in II anyway. But I also resent this type of fee.
