  • II exchange opportunity likelihood--Aruba

I'm not sure what thread this goes in b/c it looks like the Exchange opportunities thread is where people post what's actually available.

I wish to deposit my Marriott plat HHI wk for 08' to try exchange into either of the Marriott Aruba resorts for any wk Jan-Mar of 08' or 09'. We also need a one bdrm at least. Is it too late to get an 08' week?

Ideally, I really only want to join II for one year. Should I wait until winter of next year and then join so that I can put in a request further out or should I even try to join this winter and hope for possible trade w/flexchange?

You know, you might be able to do a direct exchange with some other Marriott owner here.

Try going to this forum here and post for advice...lots of experts there...

      Thanks.

I've looked at the owner trades website and at TUG but it seems people who own in the Carribbean are looking for DVC, Hawaii, or another island in the Carribbean.

Yes, you are probably too late for winter 2008.
And u might have to pay for 2 years of II to make this work.

Reserve a summer week - July to mid August - at your home resort.
then 13-14 months before you want to travel put your request in with II - tell them that you want a 2BR but would accept a 1BR - put in for both ocean and surf club.

In this case, the early bird gets the worm - if you own at a top resort (not older ones) in HHI, you should be able to get this trade - the important part is to be one of the first ones requesting it so that when the deposits come in, your request is there.
You will never (almost!) see these deposits sitting around online.

I have traded into the surf club 2Xs using a surf club plat studio to get a plat plus studio - New Years - and a 2BR Gold MAR Fairway Villas to get a studio plat plus surf club next March spring break.

          Why 13-14months?

If Marriott owners can only reserve 12-13 months out, how come a request should be put in 13-14 months out? Do owners who deposit typically deposit right away?

I just reserved a July 4th wk at the best Marriott HHI resort, IMHO

I'm trying to time it just right to only pay one yr fees, get and use an AC, plus get my desired exchange. Hope springs eternal right?

Ditto.....Very good advice. This will give you a very good shot at getting your week.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

13-14 months because yes, people deposit right away - and multi-week owners can reserve 13+ months out.
If I wanted your 2008 HHI July 4th week, my request would have been in II in April 2007.
It is just the way it works.

You can hope but you greatly reduce your chances of success by saving the II fee.

keep in mind also that your HHI GO week will have better trading value the sooner it is deposited. I would join II now, make the deposit and put in your Aruba request for '08. You will also likely get an AC for your GO deposit.

Hopefully you will get your Aruba trade. If not, you can always rejoin II and try for '09. Another option, although I wouldn't suggest it right now, is if closer in you are not lucking out you can always expand your search to include other Aruba resorts for the timeframe you want.

Since you can manage with a 1 BR, I would accept a 1 BR if offerred and then keep on checking if a matching studio comes along. You can then call II and ask for the second unit as an add-on; you'll have to pay a second exchange fee but not give up another unit for trade. Then when making your requests to Marriott ask them to recombine the units. That has worked for many people and will allow you to make airline reservations and plans further in advance. Also, most people lock their units off before depositing, so there are many more studio and 1 BR deposits than 2 BR's.

Hope you get what you want. Aruba is a great resort and you'll enjoy a trip there. Congrats again on getting the GO week, and glad you were able to reserve such a hot week.

                  Great tips...

Thanks for the great tips everyone. I called II the other day and the salesperson said that they were not giving out and AC yet for my resort for July 4th wk. but will be.

Looking at another thread, seems like other people are getting them for their 2008 wk. I would think that I have a high demand week.

Doing anything with just a one year membership is tricky. In order to make an exchange, you must be a member at the time you arrange the exchange and also on the check-in dates of the week you are giving up and the week you are receiving. Likewise, you have to be a member on the check-in date for a week that you get with an AC.

As a procedural matter, you can not do an on-line search beyond the expiration date of your membership.

That is why we all suggested that a 2 year membership is the way to go.

                        2 yr membership option available?

Is there such a plan? When I called them to ask if my Marriott TS was eligible for "2 for 1", they said no. As far as I know, you can save some money on the 3 or 5 yr plan.
