  • II Banking of Week

I may have to bank a week in the 59 day window. It is a Marriott on Hilton Head. If I do so, what will I get? If it is just a week that is good for a year, is there any reason not to wait till the last possible time to bank it (what is that?) and maximium the one year period? Will there be any Marriott preferences or have I lost that, too?

Found this on the II website.

    * You can make a Flex Deposit if you need to deposit your week 59 to 14 days prior to the check-in date (no deposits are accepted less than 14 days before your week). You’ll then use the Flexchange service to confirm an exchange.

    * Flexchange is a service Interval offers to members who want to request a vacation exchange on short notice — from 59 days to 24 hours before check-in. You can check Flexchange availabilities at IntervalWorld.com or by calling 800-722-1747.

It sounds like you may be pulling from a select pool of resorts that are in the Flexchange program., but I am only speculating.

It would be to your advantage to bank your week prior to the 59th day. Once you enter the flexchange period, you can not put in a request, and can only use the week for flexchange exchanges. This means that you would need to do your own on-line searches, and be able to use the week for a last minute vacation. 59 days, or less to the check-in date.......Your trading power/Marriott preference will NOT be affected.

Angela- now that I have 2 Flexchange deposits (yeah- I know- not ideal but the only way not to totally lose my weeks) what are the rules as far as booking/cancelling an exchange? Is there the 24 hour grace period to cancel as for regular trades (to check airfare, etc.)?

To answer part of OP's post- the exchange period is good for 2 years from the date of the original reservation, like any other deposit. Also- be careful of what they call 14 days- I am not sure if it is exactly 14 calendar days. We initially had a week scheduled for Aruba leaving on the 4th. My Dad died on Dec. 15th and, of course, we had to cancel and II told my friend (who was handling everything there for me, otherwise I would have just let the week go to waste under the circumstances; anyway, she was told that the 16th was the absolute last day to deposit. The only way it seems to amount to 14 days is if they don't count Sundays or holidays. Again, I wasn't in any position to question or even care, but I was surprised that 14 days wasn't just 2 weeks, so I am passing the info. along so someone else doesn't get caught short.

Yes, you can still cancel within the 24 hour period, without incurring any other restrictions, or penalties.

You can also extend your flexchange deposit for 3, 6, or 12 months, for an additional cost. You will not receive a refund if you extend for a longer period of time then it took you to get an exchange.
