  • About to Join - General Questions

Hello all and thank you in advance for anything info that you provide.

I just received my deed for a TS that my InLaws gave to us. (good to mention I have been to II site and know how to search for a week) I know it is a decent TS because I have been able to exchange into DVC in the past.

When I called member services - they gave me the price for membership. Ok got that.

I then asked about ACs and that is where I am confused. They told me my TS is eligable and gave me about a 8 month window of times that I would be eligable for an AC.

I have a float week. I am use to my MIL depositing it then I just go on the II site and exchange it for DVC.

II is telling me I have to call the resort - schedule a week during the time period eligable for a AC - then call them and give them that week to exchange for what I want and then they will give me an AC? Does that sound correct? I don't understand how I can tell the resort I want the week and then pass it along. (sorry - new to the nitty gritty details).

Then what......when I look online will I see my original week as banked and then have the AC to use whenever?

    Thanks again!

Yes, you first need to call your resort to reserve a week. If it falls within the window of dates eligible for an AC with II, you will get one when you deposit the week with II. It will take a few days, up to a week or so, to show up in your account, as II first "confirms/verifies" that you have indeed the reserved the week and are able to deposit it.

So: step 1: reserve week with your resort, get a reservation/confirmation # and checkin date.
Step 2: Call II to deposit the week (they will need the date and reservation #), and set up your II account if you haven't done so already.
Step 3: Wait for II to clear the week, then start exchanging online. The AC will show up

Before reserving your week to deposit, do some research on which dates would get you the best "trading power" in II. If your MIL used to be able to get you the trades you wanted, then find out which dates she used to reserve. Otherwise, ask us here, we'll need to know the resort to be able to help.

      Welcome to TS4Ms

As Glitter said, the week you reserve at your home resort is VERY important with how happy u will be with your exchanges - II has already told u that they give an AC or bonus week for ONLY 8 months worth of check-in dates....while this is very good for you - u can see that there are definitely weeks that are NOT in demand - II will accept them for deposit but will not give them the same trade power as the more desirable weeks will have.

Another tip is that a week that contains a holiday is also a good bet for increased trade power.

And make sure when u call back to deposit your week, that u confirm they will be giving you an AC - if they say no, wait a few weeks and call again...II doesn't always offer them until 10 months out from check-in.

        Thanks so much.

My MIL always just deposited the weeks and then I went online to do the exchange.

Right now....when I look at her II account (know I need to get my own now) It shows a 2008 and a 2009 week available.

If I play around with it - then it asks me what week to trade. Up until this point just put in any old date to search inventory - but now I understand why they want to see the week.

Question 1: so when I do this - I guess this date I should put in is a date that I actually made the reservation for with my home resort - correct? I just can't pick one out of the air.

Question 2: Let's say II tells me the week of Sept 15th with give me an AC. Does that mean if I can make my ressie with my home resort for that week I will automatically get an AC?

Question 3: How long does an AC last for? If I get one do I have to use it in so many months?

Thanks again for all your help - really appreciate it!!!!

          Sorry - one more question.....

If I go to the site and use deposit first I assumed I just gave II my float week and they did what they wanted with it. If I am trying to get an AC I assume it is better for me to make the ressie first - then deposit. Is that correct?

If u tell us the resort name, unit size and season u own in - it would be much easier to help you

Well, since u r playing around, then yes, enter any date BUT - do the same search 6 times with 6 different dates and see which one gives u the BEST results - this will give u a pretty good idea what date would be the best to reserve and deposit

Question 2: Let's say II tells me the week of Sept 15th will give me an AC. Does that mean if I can make my ressie with my home resort for that week I will automatically get an AC?
If you ask first and they say they will give u an AC for weeks 20-40 - then if u reserve week 30, yes, you can expect to get an AC - but always check again BEFORE u deposit because sometimes they don't offer EVERY week an AC at once...example, one of my weeks right now is showing an AC if I deposit week 14 - but week 17 still isn't showing the offer - it will but not for a few more weeks...see?

Question 3: How long does an AC last for? If I get one do I have to use it in so many months?
12 months from the day of deposit

Thanks again for all your help - really appreciate it!!!!

No, if u do that and make an exchange with a 'fake' reservation - when they call your resort to verify the reservation - II will cancel your exchange because u did not HAVE that week reserved.

If I am trying to get an AC I assume it is better for me to make the resie first - then deposit. Yes, you MUST deposit first to get an AC - if you just do a 'spur of the moment' exchange with a real reservation - you will NOT get the AC - the AC is given to GET YOU TO DEPOSIT your high demand week.....see?
            Is that correct?

II is a membership based company. The way it works is this, you reserve a specific week at your home res when you give your week to II it goes into the pool for other mems to use. When you wanna vac your pulling anothe mems depo they have given to II. II provides the pool. The better you put in the better you can take out. The week you put in is the most important factor.

Thanks again - the unit is a 1 bedroom - float week at CPB.

I just always remember my MIL telling me she deposits the weeks at the beginning of every year then decides what to do with them. Guess that is why I am confused about making a ressie first.

                  Thanks for clearing it up.

II told me the resort has AC availablity from 12/19/08 to 04/22/09 and 04/24/08 to 09/10/2008.

So - just received my deed - guess my next step is to officially join II and try to make a ressie during the above time periods.

Thanks again - all your help is very much appreciated.

You need to make a reservation before you deposit your weeks. II needs to know which week you're giving them so they can give it to other members, and keep in mind the week number matters but also, the sooner you deposit your week the more trading power you'll have
