Help with II Exchange!!

My family was late with planning our summer and I'm wondering if my request has a prayer of clearing??

I deposited a spring break week in Orlando at Horizons by Marriott. Looking to exchange for somewhere in Breckenridge, possibly Grand Timber Lodge or Hyatt Main Street Station; or San Diego area, hopefully the Four Seasons Aviara.

I know the Four Seasons is unlikely thought I'd give it a shot. Weeks are available throughout the summer in CO but not the one we'd like. Does anyone have any experience with requests who could weigh in??

It is VERY late for the summer - but you best bet is to put in an ongoing search with II for as many dates and as many resorts as will be acceptable to you.
I am assuming you mean Spring Break 2009 week was deposited.

Four Seasons would be highly unlikely but it wouldn't stop me from requesting it
Since you deposited a Marriott week - you will get priority into other Marriott resorts - so if there is a late depsoit or a cancelation - you would be at the front of the line to get it.
Consider adding Marriott Newport Coast and the Park City Marriotts to your request.
There is usually availability at Lawrence Welk Resorts in the San Diego area....it is a large resort and there can always be last minute cancelations.

Right now using a non Marriott week I see.
No San Diego or Southern CA

And an FYI - if you are exchanging a 2BR but only see studios and 1BRs - II will allow you to get a 'second' unit - 1BR + studio = 2BR - by paying a second exchange fee.

Thank you for that! I was intrigued by what you said about the 1 bedroom options. We have three kids (two are teenagers), so we really need the additional space. How does it work if I want two one-bedroom units or a one-bedroom and a studio?? We're trying to do a trip the last week in July/very beginning of August before our oldest heads off to college. I like the Marriott in Breckenridge but it only has 1 bedroom units...any suggestions??

If you deposited a 2BR, call II and request the trade but tell them you need the 2BR unit and are willing to pay a second exchange fee to get the additional unit - because II is very SIZE oriented - you want a 'like for like' trade - and a studio and 1BR = a 2BR at most resorts.
Now if you are saying that particular resort ONLY has studios and 1BRs but no 2BRs - I do not know how II would handle it - but if you don't ask, you will never know!
I have traded into Marriott Desert Ridge and paid the second exchange fee to get the larger unit - a studio and 1BR put together as a 2BR.
I would also request all the other resorts that would work for you as well as a range of dates.

Pat gave some excellent advice. If you are seeing some acceptable weeks in CO, but just not the week(s) you need, I think you have a decent shot with an ongoing search. Also, call II; they sometimes have extra inventory that isn't visible online.

Call them back and ask..... they won't 'offer'.
Did you put in an ongoing search?
and for how many weeks and how many resorts?
If you tell me 4 weeks and 5 resorts, you have a chance of matching - the more flexible you can be at this late date, the better chance you have.

I wish you had a few more resorts or a second date but I do know how that is.... It might end up being a match later rather then sooner ....and I would suggest you keep an open mind and starting looking online at II several times a week (to avoid being obsessive like the rest of us who look daily ) to see if anything 'catches your interest'
Also, once you have 16 posts, you can 'see' the II exchange opportunity board where daily sightings of 'good stuff' that is seen online is posted.

I have taken some of my favorite trips by exchanging into a resort I saw on the sightings board...we call that the "didn't know I wanted to go there but do" syndrome

edit - as you are a Marriott owner, you will get first crack at the Marriotts that are deposited or canceled before the rest of the II members.

Thanks Pat!! Yeah I'm trying to not check multiple times a day but since II is unpredictable it's tempting not too!

I'm crossing my fingers with the Marriott and am hoping to get my 16th post soon to get access to the Exchange page.

Do you know how often they update the availability, per day or real time??

That's a good question...and I don't know.
I think I would discuss it with II when I was making the original request and see what they say - I suspect the answer would be yes as they make their money by accepting your exchange fee
